Sometimes I believe LE is full of crap. I fully believe if they believe it is Hailey, the investigation would be handled a little differently than any other case.
By that, I mean a lot of time has been spent investigating her case so certain techniques would be used.
I'm not sure if Sparky has been doing this too long, or LE in this area just aren't experienced enough for a case like this.

Ya, I agree. One media outlet says they have notified Billie and she is en route. Another says this has nada to do w/Hailey.

I haven't trusted what these local yocals have said for over two years now.

One more thing and it's trivial but bugs me: "Spanky" sounds like a kid..from the "Our Gang" show. It doesn't speak "Respect" in any way. Just saying.

SCURRY COUNTY (KCBD) -
As of Tuesday evening DPS officials say the crime scene where the body was found near Snyder has been cleared, but so far investigators still do not know the identity of the body.

KWES in Midland reported Billie Dunn, the mother of missing teen Hailey Dunn, told them that investigators will be using dental records to speed up the identification process.

The body found on Saturday was discovered near Lake JB Thomas just 30 miles from Colorado City where 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing back in December of 2010. Tuesday, Billie confirmed over the phone that she is in Snyder due to the investigation, but declined an interview.

A family friend released this statement on behalf of the Dunn family:

"We are praying it is not Hailey and we are praying for whom ever it is and their loved ones. The FBI and Texas Rangers are in close contact with us but at this time they've given us very little information. The entire family is desperately trying to hold on to hope that Hailey will be found alive. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and their hope for Hailey."

This is not the first time Billie has made the fearful trip to west Texas because the discovery of a body. Almost one year ago to the day, Billie was in Big Spring when a body was found last March. Days went by, and finally it was determined the body was a male.

"This time they're all trying to stay positive until the facts are actually known," the friend said. "It was a long while to get them to be ok after last March. Right now we're just saying we are going to bring Hailey home alive."

Family fears missing cheerleader's remains found

Decomposed remains found in Texas could be those of missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn

Police unable to determine age or gender at this point
Mother of Hailey Dunn praying remains are not hers

Decomposed human remains were found in Scurry County, Texas on Saturday, giving rise to speculation that they could be those of missing 13-year-old cheerleader Hailey Dunn.

Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, told KWES that she is praying the remains are not her daughter’s. Dunn said investigators told her they plan to use dental records to try to make a quick identification.

Texas Department of Public Safety Press Secretary Tom Vinger told HLN the age and gender of the remains could not be determined due to the state of decomposition. Vinger said several law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Rangers and the FBI, were at the scene until Tuesday assisting with the search and recovery process.

Katherine Chaumont of the Dallas FBI field office said an evidence response team was sent out on Sunday and Monday at the request of the Texas Rangers.

DPS Senior Trooper Sparky Dean told KTXS the remains were not intact and were found in a thorn- and cactus-filled area that could only be reached on foot.

The remains were discovered Saturday afternoon near Lake J.B. Thomas, which is about 12 miles from Snyder, Texas. The lake is about 30 miles from Colorado City, where Hailey was last seen alive at her mother’s home on December 27, 2010.

Dean told KTXS that investigators wanted to gather all of the remains before sending them to a medical examiner in Lubbock or Fort Worth for an autopsy.

KOSA reported that members of Hailey Dunn’s family were traveling to Snyder after learning of the discovery.

Meanwhile, supporters of the family and those who have assisted with the search for Hailey over the last two years are asking for prayers and patience.

“Extra prayers please as we all wait for answers. May God wrap his loving arms around Hailey and her family. Thank you all,” a statement posted on the Hope for Hailey Facebook page Sunday said.

A more blondish BD was interviewed by KTXS TV today. She said the FBI called her on Sunday and told her about the remains being found.

Investigators have wrapped up their search of the actual scene near Lake JB Thomas where a body was found Saturday near Snyder, by a man out rock hunting.

We spoke with one man who's studied the lake for years who said the bones were found in a part of Lake JB Thomas that has been dried up for quite a while. Based on his knowledge of the area he said the remains were not found close to water.

We're told the person who found the remains stumbled upon a skull, a femur, and a tooth.

All of these remains have now been taken from the lake area to Dallas, where they will be identified using dental records.

While the news of the body's discovery has taken over the headlines, one group of people has come together in hope and prayer.

The search team of Hailey Dunn, the thirteen-year-old who went missing in 2010, has renewed their efforts in Hailey's search this week.

They took down the stuffed animals that once brought life to Hailey' memorial, and replaced them with flowers.

"The animals had all lost their color and their vibrancy," said one woman who has been part of Hailey's search team. "They were dreary and sad looking on the panels and the garden will brighten it up a little and maybe give people more hope.

Others in the search team said while they're still hopeful Hailey is alive, they're just looking for an answer.

"Like everybody says we hope it's not her because we want her to be alive still, but at the same time like everybody says it does put closure to it," said one man who has been part of Hailey's search team.

Billie said she and Shawn broke up awhile back. When he finally moved out, he harassed her for weeks and wouldn't leave her alone.
She also stated she now sees a different side of Shawn that others were telling her about him.
Billie went on to say she hates the guy. (Shawn)

Now these remains have been found, and she is blasting Shawn.

I want to believe her but with her actions and the polys in the beginning makes it difficult.

LUBBOCK — Investigators aren’t the only ones waiting for answers in the case of the body found in Scurry County.

Vikki and Jack Wilkerson of Hobbs, N.M., have been waiting for answers in their daughter’s disappearance for nearly nine years. Families like the Wilkersons find themselves dealing with increased anxiety every time the media reports a body found.

“I’m on pins and needles until I find out,” Vikki Wilkerson said Wednesday evening, March 20.

She’s been cleaning carpets and oil painting to occupy her time and mind.

“When you find out it’s not (her) your heart hurts, but there’s a sign of relief that it’s not Jennifer,” Vikki said.

South Plains college student Jennifer Wilkerson was last seen July 13, 2004, and investigators still aren’t sure what exactly happened to her.

Scurry County deputies, the FBI and Texas Rangers are working to identify the remains of a person found Saturday, March 16, near J.B. Thomas Reservoir.

Police have not released an age or whether the remains are that of a male or female.

Sr. Trooper Sparky Dean said investigators are unsure if a crime has actually occurred in the Scurry County case. The exact location of the find hasn’t been revealed to keep trespassers out of what could be a crime scene, Dean said Sunday, March 17.

When Vikki Wilkerson heard the location of the body she said she got out a map to see if it was near any of the areas where searches were conducted for Jennifer.

“You start going through it,” she said. “I don’t want it to be anybody.”

There were rumors at one point that Jennifer’s body might be in a lake but that has never been proven. Investigators in her case recently said it is still classified as a missing person case and not a homicide.

Vikki said she has been following recent news stories about other missing people, particularly Maegen Hembree of Hockley County and Tiffany Groves of Lubbock. Since the news in Scurry County broke, she said she’s been checking all the area news channels three or four times a day.

“Jennifer is my first priority, but I understand what those families are going through,” Vikki said.

The Wilkersons and investigators will continue to wait for answers whatever they are in their respective cases.

Vikki recently said she has a feeling there will be a break in her daughter’s case soon. Until then, Jennifer’s family continues to miss her, especially at family milestone events and holidays.

“They’re special but not quite as bright without her,” Vikki said.

"Definitely not used to it. That's the first time I can remember, as long I've lived here, something that happened. Especially that close to home," said Bryce Wilkins.

Wilkins has lived in Ira for most of his life. And the news of a body found near the lake where he used to go all the time as a kid has him and the community uneasy.

BIG SPRING - The discovery of a body in Big Spring has brought the name Hailey Dunn back on everyone's lips. Add to the fact that Hailey's mother's live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins is back in town, it's stirring up a lot of controversy.

Since the disappearance of the Colorado City teen we haven't heard much from Adkins or his side of the story. But on Thursday, NewsWest 9 got the chance to speak to his attorney and clear up some unanswered questions.

December 27, 2010, 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing from Colorado City. The only person of interest named by authorities was and still is Shawn Adkins.

"He knows he had nothing to do with the disappearance of Hailey Dunn," Alex Eyssen, Shawn Adkins attorney from Abilene, said.

More than a year later, we're getting answers to some burning questions from Shawn Adkins lawyer. Eyssen says Shawn is back in the area.

"He and Billie both have a strong tie to Hailey and they want to be close if in fact that is Hailey. So before talking to anybody, he made the decision that he needed to come back and return to the area and be close," Eyssen said.

The remains that were found happened to be only a few miles from Shawn Adkins mother's house, fueling the rumors. But Shawn insists he had nothing to do with Hailey going missing. Eyssen says Shawn is heartbroken and hopes that soon his name will be exonerated.

"He is saddened by it. I think the law enforcement focus on him has been unfounded and he would like to have his name cleared," Eyssen said.

But why did Shawn move away from Colorado City?

"In a small community like both Colorado City and Big Spring he could not go anywhere without being questioned and confronted about this matter. He could not find employment and he felt that if he was ever going to be able to live a life on his own, he would have to move," Eyssen said.

Shawn's lawyer tells NewsWest 9 that he doesn't agree with the polygraph test he took last year and he approves of Shawn walking out.

"When a polygraph changes from what should just be a question and answer session to a screaming match where someone is being pressured to make a fake false confession, it has to be ended," Eyssen said.

As for the statements where Shawn told authorities that they could find Hailey in Scurry County, he says they are false.

"I think a lot of the statements that have been attributed to him and others have been incorrect," Eyssen said.

During the investigation, court documents said a search of the family's home found a box containing hundreds of documents focused on mass murderers, serial killers and murders of family members.

Eyssen said this was all based on Shawn's interest in film and literature. Another court document states over 100,000 images of child porn and bestiality were found on a computer at the home of Shawn Adkins' mother in Big Spring.

"We have never, despite numerous requests, confirmed from law enforcement that there have been any of those items discovered and if they have been discovered, which we don't know that, they have not come from any source attributed to Shawn," Eyssen said.

Billie and Shawn are still in a relationship. Eyssen said Shawn Adkins is accessible to police and he has informed them of where he is and how he could be reached. Eyssen is in contact with both state and federal officials.

Missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn's mother tells NewsWest 9 she is now suspicious that her ex-boyfriend had something to do with the little girl's disappearance. The news comes as speculation still looms over whether or not the human remains found Saturday in Scurry County are those of Hailey Dunn.

Mother Billie Dunn and Shawn Adkins moved to Austin after the little girl went missing back in late December of 2010, but a lot has changed in their lives over the past few months. Billie tells told NewsWest 9, she ended the relationship, which he didn't take well.

"[He] started [calling] and harassing me and scaring me. I've just seen a darker side of him," Billie said.

She said that after they split, he moved back to his mother's house in Big Spring. We went to his mother's home looking to speak with Adkins. Family was inside the house but nobody would answer the door. Nearby neighbors claim Adkins went out-of-state a few months ago for work.

Meanwhile, they say his parents have been getting death threats in the mail and over the Internet. Neighbors also tell NewsWest 9, his mom and step dad are good, honest people and have been shattered by all of this.

Billie claims that lately she's been reflecting heavily on the past, and how strangely Shawn was acting those first few days after Hailey's disappearance.

"For instance, the main thing about him quitting his job and lying to me about it for a week, saying he had a job and then telling me he was fired when, in fact, he wasn't," she said.

Dunn also finds it suspicious that her ex-boyfriend, she claims, couldn't produce his coveralls, a type of work uniform, when a law enforcement requested them.

"The fact that he lied and said they were at work and we already know through video and through his boss that he didn't leave them at work. So, why are they hidden?" Dunn said. Never heard this before.

She suspects he may know more about Hailey's whereabouts than what everyone originally thought. We ALWAYS thought he "knew more about Hailey's whereabouts". WTH??

Identification of the human remains found Saturday in Scurry County could put all this to rest, but unfortunately, an answer is still far off. Instead of reviewing dental records, investigators will have to review DNA, which is a two to three week process.

"[It's] really upsetting that we have to wait that long when we've been in shock and so upset since Sunday...finding out that there's been remains found and now we just have to stay in this state of limbo and not knowing for two or three more weeks," Dunn said.

I haven't looked at the girls FB but the way I read it I thought she was talking about Shawn. "She said she was parading him around town, well I just copied/pasted what she said:

I just can't remember how old Shawn is or was when Billie started seeing him, that would tell us for sure. The above girl says he was 19 at the time and he's 22 now and they were together until a year ago. She also said it was the same bf who said Hailey could be found in Snyder - I know Shawn said she could be found in Scurry County and Synder is in Scurry County, right? So I don't know....

Who knows? This case has taken so many twists and turns and outright hypocrisy no one knows what to think! Guess we'll find out sooner than later?

Also, don't understand WHY they are NOW saying it w/take DNA instead of dental records to discern if this is Hailey. Maybe Billie never took her daughter to a dentist?

In one of the latest articles it says Hailey only has one view, one picture or something like that at the dentist. I can find that if you want me to.

It's OK. IIRC, they found one tooth? Still, the FBI Can put a 'stat' on this. It doesn't have to take this longggggg.

I read that a single tooth was found. Sounds like the skull wasn't intact, Wrap. Billie said that Hailey had only had x-rays of her mouth done once.

Billie said that about the one view, or one picture or x-ray in the video upthread.

Other missing persons cases still open near Scurry County

SCURRY COUNTY, Texas -
Authorities continue to work to identify human remains found in a remote area of Lake J.B. Thomas.

Many wondered if it could be a break in the case of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn. Right now, authorities aren't saying. In fact, they still have not released the gender or age and said the body was badly decomposed.

Who could it be?

We checked with the Department of Public Safety for counties near where the body was found.

They said only active cases that have been reported by loved ones or authorities are listed. We looked through Scurry, Mitchell, Howard, Nolan, Fisher and Lubbock counties and found four missing persons after 2000.

In Scurry County, where remains were found last week, there are no active missing persons cases.

William Bynum, 40, disappeared from Big Spring in 2003. He was seen leaving a bar with another man and was never heard from again.

In 2004, 26-year-old Jennifer Wilkerson was reported missing from Lubbock. Her boyfriend was the last person to see her. He said she was going to drive home and then to her job, but she never arrived at work.

The nationally known Hailey Dunn case began in 2010. Then 13-year-old Hailey was last seen at her Colorado City home by her mom's boyfriend. He says she left for her father's house and never made it there.

The most recent case was last year in Lubbock. Mark Ysasanga, 15, packed a bag and went to his friend’s house. He was last seen there at 2 a.m.

Bizarre Hailey Dunn Update: Is Mom's Blame Game Convenient or Honest?

Could the search for Hailey Dunn be over? Human remains were located on Saturday in Scurry County, leading many to speculate on the possibility that the missing Colorado City teen has finally been found. That's not the only telltale sign that the beginning of the end is near, and it's far from the strangest if that makes any sense. You see, the missing teen's mom has had a sudden change in demeanor and is now shifting blame to her former boyfriend after nearly three years.

Billie Dunn has never really spoken against Shawn Adkins, even after her own daughter vanished and much of the country speculated that he was involved. She stood right by her man through all of this, and even relocated away from their home with him after Hailey vanished. Now things have changed and she spoke to the media about her sudden suspicions.

Suddenly all of the little things that made everyone else suspicious of Shawn have Billie questioning whether or not he's the innocent man she's touted him as being for nearly three years. So what's changed? Well, she claims that their relationship ended recently and since then he's been harassing and scaring her.

"I've just seen a darker side of him," she said.

Huh, well that sounds interesting, but it seems that it's all too conveniently close to the latest discovery of remains. Maybe it's suspicion, or maybe it's intuition—but doesn't it seem odd that they've broken up and she's suddenly pushing the blame toward him in this disappearance so close to the discovery of remains in Scurry County? Hey this could all be innocent and Billie Dunn could have just been a dim bulb that suddenly brightened after nearly three years, but there's just something that seems off about this whole thing.

Was Hailey Dunn murdered by mommy's man?

History is repeating itself in this case. Last year remains were found nearly to the date that these latest remains were located, and America waited anxiously for DNA results to say Hailey had been found.

Unfortunately the remains turned out to belong to some other person—obviously. Now here it is a year later with a whole new set of remains, and with Billie Dunn's strange new behavior toward Shawn Adkins, it's hard to speculate on what the results might be.

Hopefully this isn't a repeat of last year and an end can be brought to this case once and for all. Hailey has been missing since 2010 and it's more than apparent that at least one person is getting away with something awful. What needs to be questioned is whether or not Billie Dunn truly feels new suspicion for her former lover, or if this is old news rekindled against him for public face. That's not an accusation against anyone but an honest analytic observation.
