Latest NewsMEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — James Auchincloss — who as a boy carried the wedding train of his half-sister Jackie up the aisle as she married John F. Kennedy — was jailed Wednesday after admitting to possessing child pornography.
Auchincloss, 63, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of encouraging child sex abuse, the charge generally brought against people possessing child pornography, for having computer images of naked boys.
Jackson County Circuit Judge Mark Shiveley ordered Auchincloss to serve 30 days in jail on each count, to be served concurrently, as part of three years of supervised probation. Auchincloss also registered as a sex offender, and agreed to undergo treatment as such, with no unauthorized contact with minors.
He was indicted a year ago on 25 counts after his longtime personal assistant, Edward McManus, told investigators he had seen Auchincloss and co-defendant Dennis Vickoren viewing pictures of naked boys in sexual poses at Auchincloss' home in Ashland.
Vickoren, 58, of Ashland, also pleaded guilty to two counts Wednesday and received the same sentence.
McManus said outside the courtroom that the sentence was "not enough."
"I do not feel justice was served, nor was it swift," he said. "I thought I would feel differently today. I thought I would have a sense of closure. I am disappointed."
McManus noted that the sentencing came two years after he told authorities that Auchincloss and Vickoren kept an extensive collection of child pornography in books, slides and computer files at Auchincloss' hillside bungalow.
Prosecutor David Hoppe said investigators reviewed the images seized from Auchincloss' home and identified local residents in them, but after interviewing them were unable to elicit any complaints of actual sexual abuse of a child.
Defense attorney Carl Caplan told the judge that none of the photos depicted sex acts, and Auchincloss and Vickoren "did not realize they were operating in the world of child pornography."
Auchincloss and Vickoren will pay $1,000 in assessments and forfeit seized images deemed to be pornography. Others will be returned to them.
Caplan read a statement in which Auchincloss apologized to the victims of his crimes, declaring the acts unacceptable and stupid.
"I will do whatever is necessary to prove to them and society that I will be a better person," Caplan read.
An heir to a wealthy family that made a fortune in oil and financing, Auchincloss is the half brother of the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. He went on to be a patron of the arts and an amateur historian, and moved to Ashland, home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, 15 years ago.
Friends of Auchincloss said Jackie later treated him like a pariah. Various reasons have been given, including the fact that Auchincloss served as a source for the racy Jackie biography titled "Jackie, Oh," by author Kitty Kelley.

Just checked Zillow.com.
James Auchincloss paid $350,000 for his home in 1995 and it was valued as high as $1.2 before the market dropped. 3175 sq ft, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths on a quarter acre in Ashland, OR.......right next to the CA border.
Money sure doesn't equate "class".

3,175 sq ft and only 3 bedrooms? What takes up all that space I wonder. My home is over 2,000 and at least it has 4 bedrooms. The value never has been anywhere close to that figure. It must have been overvalued before the market dropped---it doesn't even look one bit elegant for that kind of money. (There had been a picture with the article but I can never give that link because it was my ISP home page and those links never work for anyone else.)

What a dirt bag!!!! And, I agree. That's a lot of square footage for only 3 bedrooms.
TR, I am confused on the ISP issue.

Just thinking, this man, born into wealth, actually did nothing productive in his life according to the article, and it doesn't appear from what the article states that he ever held a job. He became a patron of the arts, but made money by selling private information about his own sister for publication. What a waste!

Migraines, my you know what!
Jackson inmate denied medical marijuana use/ Judge will not intercede for migraine sufferer
A convicted sex offender with a medical marijuana card for migraines will need to find another way to treat his headaches in jail.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters told the Mail Tribune newspaper that Dennis Vickoren will not be allowed to use medical marijuana while serving his 30-day sentence, beginning Sept. 20.
“We never have. Never,” Winters said. “And I don’t see that changing.”
Vickoren, 58, a former Rogue Valley Transportation District bus driver and Sunday school teacher, pleaded guilty Aug. 18 to two felony counts of encouraging child sexual abuse.
Vickoren was sentenced on the same day and on the same charges as James Auchincloss, half brother to the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The two were accused of viewing pictures of boys in sexual poses at Auchincloss’ home in Ashland.
At the sentencing, Vickoren’s attorney, Jeni Feinberg, stated her client had a legal prescription for medical marijuana and asked Jackson County Circuit Judge Mark Schiveley to issue a court order allowing the use.
Schiveley declined.
The judge refused to discuss the specifics of Vickoren’s case when contacted by the Mail Tribune.
“Hypothetically, as a judge, I am reluctant to make a ruling that says it’s fine,” Schiveley said last week.
Vickoren and Feinberg did not return calls by the Mail Tribune.
Under state law, a patient’s right to medical marijuana use is not protected while he or she is in police custody or residing in a correctional facility, said Portland attorney Leland Berger, who assisted in drafting the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act and represents Oregon medical marijuana patients and their caregivers statewide.
Using medical marijuana “in a correctional facility does not exempt you from prosecution,” said Berger. “If you use, you could be arrested and prosecuted.”
But he said the question of whether Vickoren can use medical marijuana while serving three years on probation under his sentence may be a matter of legally determining what constitutes “care and custody.”
Berger said usage restrictions may soon be challenged in cases citing the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“The problem is that judges and prosecutors want to play doctor without being a part of the medical society,” Berger said.
Schiveley said he and other judges are struggling with Oregon’s medical marijuana laws and court policies.
Doctors in Oregon — and 13 other states and the District of Columbia — can legally prescribe marijuana. And patients have a right to use their preferred medicine. But marijuana still is listed as a narcotic under federal law, Schiveley said.
“And there are instances where the two rights are in direct conflict,” he said.

Can you just picture an inmate being able to smoke pot in jail? The other inmates would start a riot! I don't think you can even smoke cigs in jail.
This, to me, is hilarious!!! And, I learned something new. Had no clue pot takes migranes away.

Jackie Kennedy's Half-brother James Auchincloss Jailed Again on Child Pornography Probation Violation
March 12, 2011
"Sometimes family business should remain just that. Jackie air-brushed half brother Jamie Auchincloss out of her life after he revealed the whereabouts of her wedding dress (to JFK) and blood-stained Dallas suit. He spilled the beans when speaking to Kitty Kelley for her 1979 best-selling biography, Jackie Oh! 'Kitty's fame was my infamy,' says Auchincloss."
That is what authors Shelly Branch and Sue Callaway had to say about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis cutting her brother James "Jamie" Auchincloss out of her life. Though the famous Jackie-O is dead now, she died in May 1994, her brother's infamy is still working its course.
"Ashland resident James Auchincloss will remain in Jackson County Jail
without bail after again allegedly violating his probation for his
August conviction on child pornography charges", says The Ashland Daily Tidings on March 10th. They go on to say that this "is the second time Auchincloss has been back in jail since Jackson
County Circuit Court Judge Mark Schiveley sentenced him on Aug. 18 to 30
days for two felony counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual
abuse." But Auchincloss is believed to have violated the terms of his supervision yet again. The ADT goes on to say that "as part of his negotiated plea agreement with
Jackson County prosecutors, Auchincloss acknowledged possessing and
distributing photographs of prepubescent children, images prosecutors
described as lewd and lascivious in nature.
Schiveley
ordered Auchincloss to serve three years' probation, during which he
must stay away from children and undergo sex-offender treatment. He must
also be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life." He should stay in jail until his April 1st hearing.
Auchincloss' attorney Carl Caplan claims that Auchincloss, age 63, is not a threat to anyone, despite his many times in court for charges of child pornography. the ADT cites Auchincloss' protestations as a joke, citing that "Auchincloss apparently failed to report all of
his behavior to his sex offender treatment group and disclosed that he
had been negligent just before a scheduled polygraph test." Program manager of the sex offender unit for Jackson County Community Justice Nate Gaoiran says that "the arrest and jail lodging are standard protocol for a suspected probation violation."
Not much is know about Jamie Auchincloss' early life, but the Huffington Post reports that he "was just 6 years old when he carried the wedding train
of his half-sister Jackie up the aisle as she married John F. Kennedy in 1953."
But while Auchincloss has not divulged much of his personal life, he has spilled many of Jackie Kennedy's many secrets to the press, including the infamous Kitty Kelley in her 1979 unauthorized biography called Jackie-Oh!, including the fact that Jackie's mother, Janet Auchincloss, despised Aristotle Onassis, who married Jackie in 1968, saying that Janet "almost died" when Jackie told her she was marrying Onassis. Auchincloss went on to say that Janet "was absolutely fit to be tied. She couldn't believe it. When Onassis arrived [to meet Janet], she treated him very badly." Auchincloss said that Janet, apparently said, when confronted with the news of their impending marriage, "God, no. Jackie, you can't mean it. You just can't mean it." Hardly the sentence one expects to hear uttered from a mother when told by her daughter that she is marrying a billionaire. Jamie Auchincloss says that Janet was "hysterical. She did everything she possibly could to talk Jackie out of that marriage. She was just incensed. But it was no use. Jackie had made up her mind and there was nothing anyone could do about it." Janet thought Jackie was getting back at her for divorcing Jackie's father Black Jack.
Jamie seems accustomed to dishing not only about Jackie's life with Aristotle Onassis, but with her former husband President John "Jack" Fitzgerald Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963. (To see my interview with Kennedy biographer January Jones regarding her theory of the assassination, follow this link!) Jamie told Kitty Kelley that stories of JFK's sexual escapades and philandering "have been more painful to her as a mother than as a wife. Each time a book or an article appears about one of Jack's mistresses, Jackie must tell Caroline and John that their father loved her and she loved him and they must love him, too. It's excruciating for her, but she's powerless to do anything about it." Jackie biographer January Jones explains, in her 1998 biography Oh No...Jackie O!, JFK's sexual philandering in a more livid, emotional sense: "JFK's basic approach was to f**k them, then shuck them. No one was off limits for this President. It simply wasn't an issue whether they were someone's wife, daughter, mother or sister since they were all basically just a piece of ass."
Though he does deserve it, Jamie Auchincloss isn't adverse to complaining about the way his family now treats him, after he has divulged many savory facts about his illustrious family. January Jones reports that Auchincloss once said, "It's impossible to be related to somebody as famous as Jacqueline Onassis. After talking to [Kitty] Kelley, they don't talk [to me] very much anymore." He did end up writing Jackie a "letter of apology", which he made sure to report to Kitty Kelley.
James Auchincloss once said of his famous sister, "She is always on. She's professionally Mrs. John F. Kennedy and Mrs. Aristotle Onassis 24 hours a day. She knows how to get out of the car like a movie star arriving at a premiere. Despite her screams for privacy, she has practiced making a grand entrance so often that she now does it like a pro." It seems now that James himself is getting good practice being in the public eye and practicing his grand entrances too, but this time strutting out of an armored car and into a jail cell.
In their lifetime, he was hated by his family for his leaking of their private facts, and even now in death Jackie's ghost must be wreaking horrible vengeance on Jamie, which may be why he is now mentally ill-enough to obtain child pornography. The truly eternal question of all of this, and one that will forever be unanswered, is simple: What would Jackie Kennedy think about her half-brother now?

Auchincloss said that Janet, apparently said, when confronted with the news of their impending marriage, "God, no.

Jackie O's half brother back behind bars after breaking child pornography probation
29th September 2011
The half-brother of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, James Auchincloss, is back in jail in Oregon, accused of violating terms of his probation in a child pornography case.
A Jackson County sex offender program manager told the Mail Tribune the 64-year-old Ashland man was arrested Tuesday in Medford and is being held without bail, but did not say how Auchincloss violated probation.
He pleaded guilty in August 2010 to encouraging child sexual abuse for having computer images of naked boys.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to undergo sex offender treatment.
He was in contact with officials again in December, March and June for various violations and denying that he needed therapy.
As part of his probation he has to undergo therapy, take polygraph tests and stay away from children.
Auchincloss, 63, was just a boy when he carried Jackie's wedding train up the aisle as she married John F Kennedy.
He was indicted in 2009 on 25 counts after his personal assistant, Edward McManus, told investigators he had seen Auchincloss and Dennis Vickoren viewing pictures of naked boys in sexual poses at Auchincloss' home in Ashland, Oregon.
Vickoren, 58, received the same sentence.
Auchincloss also registered as a sex offender, and agreed to undergo treatment as such, with no unauthorized contact with minors.
Defense attorney Carl Caplan told the judge that none of the photos depicted sex acts, and Auchincloss and Vickoren 'did not realize they were operating in the world of child pornography'.
Caplan read a statement in which Auchincloss apologized to the victims of his crimes, declaring the acts unacceptable and stupid.
'I will do whatever is necessary to prove to them and society that I will be a better person,' Caplan read.
An heir to a wealthy family that made a fortune in oil and financing, Auchincloss is the younger half brother of the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
He went on to be a patron of the arts and an amateur historian, and moved to Ashland, home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, in the late 90s
Friends of Auchincloss said Jackie later treated him like a pariah.
Various reasons have been given, including the fact that Auchincloss served as a source for the racy Jackie biography titled 'Jackie, Oh,' by author Kitty Kelley.
