Court Papers Say Trimm Shot, Killed, Then Buried Missing Man
A Winthrop man shot and killed 21 year old Jason Wing and buried him at the location where state police were looking for his remains Thursday, court papers say.
Wing has been missing since August 2010.
A felony complaint filed by state police investigators in Norfolk town court allege that 37 year old Dustin Trimm "intentionally, knowingly and unlawfully" shot and killed Wing sometime during the last week of August or the first week of September of that year.
Trimm, of 325 County Route 49 in Winthrop, has been charged with second-degree murder and is in the St. Lawrence County Jail without bail.
The court documents say Trimm buried the body at 281 Grantville Road in Norfolk, where police were using excavating equipment to search for Wing's remains or other evidence.
Thursday afternoon, police announced they recovered what they believe are Wing's remains.
State police Major Richard Smith Jr. said the remains were fairly well-preserved and that they will be sent to a lab for forensic identification.
He said there was evidence that Trimm tried to conceal the body, but wouldn't elaborate.
"There was a concerted effort on the part of, I believe, Mr. Trimm to hide the body to the extent that it would never be found," said Smith.
The gun believed used to shoot Wing has not been recovered.
District Attorney Nicole Duve confirmed that she presented Trimm's case to a grand jury Thursday, but declined to comment further.
Officials would not comment on a possible motive.
"It appears that the crime may have been motivated by multiple factors," said Duve.
Trimm is no stranger to authorities and negative publicity.
A convicted Level 2 sex offender, Trimm was involved in setting up an adult book store next to a church in Fort Jackson in 2004.
Wing's mother, Roxanne Stratton, told 7 News reporter John Friot that she hopes Trimm "rots in hell" for what she believes he did to her son.
Stratton says she feels in her heart that his body will be found in the heavily wooded area where police were searching.
There's no closure yet, she said, "I just hope justice will be served."
The property police are searching is owned by Robert McConnell, a friend of Trimm's.
A neighbor, Raymond Premo, who lives across the road, says he recalls seeing a large pile of burning tires at the property sometime around July or August of 2010.
Stratton said in an interview with Friot about a year ago that she feared foul play.
She feared at the time that his disappearance was related to drug trafficking involving the nearby Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation.
Trimm will be back in Norfolk Court Monday morning for a preliminary hearing.

Trimm Admits Murder In Undercover Recording
Story Published: Mar 27, 2012 at 4:03 PM EDT
Story Updated: Mar 27, 2012 at 4:11 PM EDT
Transcripts obtained by 7 News reveal some disturbing details surrounding the details of the Jason Wing murder case.
According to court documents, accused murderer Dustin Trimm admitted killing the 21 year old the Fort Covington man to an acquaintance who recorded him.
7 News obtained the transcripts of those recordings through court documents filed Tuesday.
The taped conversation was between Trimm and Robert McConnell, the man who allegedly helped Trimm bury Wing's body on property off Grantville Road near Raymondville.
The admissions came in a series of meetings in January and February of this year between Trimm and McConnell, who was wearing an electronic recording device and being monitored by police.
In those conversations, Trimm allegedly tells McConnell he is the one who shot Wing three times - once in the head and twice in the chest area.
Trimm also suggests that McConnell rent a chipper to throw Wing's body through along with brush to conceal the crime.
"Nothing there to dig up then," Trimm reportedly said.
The conversations also acknowledge that Wing's body is buried on McConnell's Grantville Road property.
Trimm also suggests they cover the spot where Wing was buried with "a real thick concrete pad."
As far as a possible motive for Wing's murder, Trimm is recorded saying "I can't stand being stolen from."
At one point in a conversation recorded January 26, 2012 inside Trimm's pickup truck, Trimm reportedly told McConnell, "If they can give four years for killing Michael Jackson, I ain't gonna get life."
According to the transcript, Trimm also told McConnell, "Sometimes you just gotta take one bad apple out of the bunch. That's the way it works."
Trimm remains jailed on $250,000 bail or $400,000 bond.

Trimm admits to murder on secret recording
By: Cara Thomas
In Dustin Trimm's arraignment on Monday, Trimm pled not guilty to the murder of 21-year-old Jason Wing, but court documents show he admitted to the crime while being secretly recorded. Our Cara Thomas tells us what State Police discovered during their investigation of Wing's death.
CANTON, N.Y. -- Jason Wing was a 21-year-old Winthrop man who disappeared in the summer of 2010. In February, State Police found his remains buried on Grantville Road in Norfolk. That same day, Dustin Trimm was arrested for the murder.
Trimm was arraigned in county court Monday, pleading not guilty to a charge of second degree murder. But court documents depict another story through recorded conversations between Trimm and three others in relation to Wing's initial disappearance.
State Police investigators used many different tactics to locate Wing's body. And according to court documents, one of their main assets was Robert McConnell, the man they say helped Trimm bury the body.
During secretly recorded conversations between the two men, Trimm admitted to killing Wing and said he did it because Wing repeatedly stole from him. He said, "Sometimes you have to take one bad apple out of the bunch."
Other conversations, recorded in the court documents, reveal that Trimm had shot Wing three times: Once in the head and twice in the chest.
Court documents show that Trimm and McConnell buried Wing on property owned by McConnell. During a later conversation, McConnell told Trimm he didn't want the body on his property anymore. Trimm told him to make sure he took out the bullets first. He also suggested to rent a wood chipper to get rid of the body or cover it up with a concrete pad. But none of those actions ever took place.
McConnell said he was afraid and didn't want to be sent to prison, but Trimm assured him by saying "If they can get four years for killing Michael Jackson, I ain't gonna get life."
Trimm is being held in the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility. His bail is set at $250,000 cash, $400,000 bond. The DA says Jason Wing's family does fear for their safety if Trimm posts bail. She also said he could potentially be a flight risk.

Dustin Trimm’s Dad Steven Trimm Accused Of Bribing Witness
MAY 22, 2013
The father of admitted murderer Dustin J. Trimm has been indicted on allegations that he bribed a witness in an effort to prevent that person from testifying against his son at trial.
Steven Trimm, 64, Winthrop, was arrested Tuesday under a St. Lawrence County Court warrant. Under an indictment unsealed Tuesday, he faces charges of felony bribing of a witness, fifth-degree conspiracy and fourth-degree criminal solicitation.
Dustin Trimm, 38, Winthrop, pleaded guilty last month to one count of first-degree manslaughter in the Aug. 31, 2010 death of Jason M. Wing, 21, as well as to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act in connection with two other cases pending against him. That plea averted a murder trial which was set to begin earlier this month.
The younger Trimm shot Wing in the head and chest and then buried his body in a wooded area off Grantville Road in the town of Norfolk. State police investigators found Mr. Wing’s body Feb. 1, 2012 on property owned by Robert McConnell.
In March or April, before the trial was to begin, Steven Trimm allegedly paid $1,500 to Mr. McConnell, telling him that they didn’t need to prove his son was innocent, just to create reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case against him. He also allegedly arranged a meeting between the witness and a private investigator.
Mr. Trimm appeared in St. Lawrence County Court Tuesday afternoon before being sent to the county jail, where he posted $10,000 bail a short time later. He is due to appear in County Court again on Tuesday, May 28.
Dustin Trimm, meanwhile, remains in the jail without bail while he awaits sentencing on Aug. 5.
