FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WRAL) Cumberland County authorities say foul play is suspected in the disappearance of Shaniya Nicole Davis. The 5-year-old girl went missing from her home in Fayetteville, N.C. Tuesday morning.

An Amber Alert was initiated for Shaniya just before noon, Lt. David Sportsman said.

Police responded to the home around 6:50 a.m., and Shaniya's mother told officers that she last saw her daughter at 5:30 a.m. The mother’s boyfriend and her sister, along with an infant and Shaniya's 7-year-old brother were also in the home when the girl went missing.

“There is definitely something not right about the situation. Foul play is suspected,” Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said Tuesday evening.

It is unclear how the child left the home.

"The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are very odd. A 5-year-old usually... [is] not awake at 5:30 a.m. normally, and they just wouldn't leave their home," Chance said. "If she would have wandered out of her home, she would be around here somewhere."

Chance said the family has a history with the Department of Social Services.

"There have been major DSS issues with this family – who has custody, switching back and forth," Chance said.

Chance said it's unknown whether the child's disappearance is related to those issues. Police said Shaniya's father flew in from out of state Tuesday afternoon and was talking to investigators.

"We're treating this as a child in danger, with the information we have," Chance said.

Chance said police have been called to the home before. This summer, officers served a search warrant at the home and found a variety of drugs inside.

The family was not allowed inside the home Tuesday evening after it was deemed a health hazard due to extensive sewage leaks, authorities said.
Police K-9s, firefighters and sheriff's deputies searched the area throughout the day Tuesday.

“We are searching for her and hoping to find her alive, but we just don't know at this point,” Chance said.

Chance noted that search dogs did not pick up Shaniya's scent, which they would have if the child was wandering around outside.

Shaniya is described as 3 feet tall and 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with pink underwear. She is thin and has a scar on her foot.

Fayetteville police say three registered sex offenders live in the neighborhood. Chance said the offenders, along with everyone else in the neighborhood, have been interviewed.

The sex offenders are not considered suspects, Chance said.

Once again another child has come up missing. Little 5-year old Shaniya Nicole Davis from Fayetteville North Carolina was last seen from her home Tuesday morning and an Amber Alert has been issued for her.

Shaniya’s mother reported to the police who arrived at the Sleepy Hollow Drive home around 6:50 that morning that it was about 5:30 that morning when she last saw her daughter. According to the mother her own boyfriend and her sister with an infant and Shaniya’s 7 year old was at home at the time of her disappearance.

Fayetteville’s Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said, “There is definitely something not right about the situation. Foul play is expected.” Although it isn’t quite clear exactly how Shaniya could have left the house, Chance went on to say, “The circumstances surrounding her disappearances are very odd. A 5 year old usually is not awake at 5:30 am normally and they just wouldn’t leave their home. If she would have wandered out of her home she would be around here somewhere.”

It was discovered that Shaniya’s family has had major issues with the Department of Social Services and they only have custody switching back and forth. It is not clear if the child’s disappearance has anything to do with this or not. The father, who lives out of state, flew into town Tuesday night to talk to the police.

Chance says they are treating this case as a child in danger with the information they have now.

Police have had problems concerning this house before. After obtaining a search warrant a variety of drugs were found inside before.

Police did a search in the home and used the K-9 dogs along with firefighters and the sheriff deputies all day Tuesday. Chance stated that they are hoping to find the little girl alive but at this point they just don’t know.. She says the search dogs didn’t pick up her scent which normally if she had been wandering outside the home they would have.

Shaniya is described as a black female, about 3 ft. tall, and weighs 40 lbs. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and no shoes. She also has a thin scar on her left foot.

I would like to know more about this case especially about how her mother saw her at 5:30 in the morning yet a little more than an hour and a half later the police is there responding to a missing child call. This really confuses me. My prayers are with this little girl. Shaniya Nicole Davis could be in danger here but I pray I am wrong. I hope they can find her soon.

Police investigating the disappearance of a 5-year-old girl in Fayetteville found a blanket believed to belong to her in a neighbor's trash can, officials said.

Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said foul play was suspected in the girl's disappearance.

Investigators said the blanket was found Wednesday near the Murchison Road area, in the green garbage receptacle of the neighbor's mobile home.

The blanket contained fecal matter as did the railing and porch of the residence where Shaniya disappeared from.

The neighbor, Andrea Moore, police said, is not a suspect in the child's disappearance.

The N.C. Offender Registry lists two sex offenders who live in the mobile home park.

Police have not allowed the family to return to the mobile home because of a sewage leak at the residence.

On a clothes line in front of the girl's home are clothes that were left outside in the rain. The park is beside what appears to be a large dump site and is surrounded by woods.

Two other children lived at the residence, she said. One is a 7-year-old boy, but Chance refused to disclose the gender and age of the other child.

NC man charged with kidnapping missing 5-year-old

North Carolina police said they were searching Thursday for a 5-year-old girl who vanished two days ago and have charged one man with kidnapping her.

Clarence Coe, 30, was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon. Theresa Chance, a spokeswoman for the Fayetteville Police Department, said a witness spotted Coe taking the girl out of the trailer park.

"I think it's safe to say this is not a random occurrence," Chance said. Investigators are assuming that Shaniya is in danger.

Barbara Davenport, property manager at Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park where Shaniya was living, said Coe is the boyfriend of the girl's mother, Antoinette Davis, and has visited the trailer park several times.

Investigators have said police dogs did not pick up the child's scent during a search of the neighborhood. Shaniya was reported missing from her a mobile home park around 7 a.m. Tuesday, and her mother last saw the girl that day around 5:30 a.m.

"Our hopes are that she's close by," Chance said.

A missing 5-year-old North Carolina girl was seen with a man at a hotel, but not the same person charged in her kidnapping, police said late Thursday.
Shaniya Davis was spotted in Sanford with a man identified as Mario Andrette McNeill, said Fayetteville Police spokeswoman Teresa Chance. She was seen with him Tuesday, about an hour after she disappeared from her home in Fayetteville, about 40 miles away.
Late Wednesday night, police arrested and charged 30-year-old Clarence Coe, who told a judge at his first court appearance that he is not guilty of kidnapping the girl. Police did not comment on any possible link between Coe and McNeill.
Chance said a hotel worker called police to report seeing a child matching Shaniya's description, but by the time police got there, McNeill had left. Authorities reviewed surveillance video and, after speaking with family members, confirmed the child's identity.
Chance said authorities are uncertain of the connection between McNeill and the child. Her father, Bradley Lockhart, made a tearful appeal for his daughter's safe return. "We just ask that they bring her home safe. We all miss her and love her very much," Lockhart said. "Shaniya, if you're listening to daddy, I miss you so much, honey. I'm waiting for you. I'm not going to give up. You don't give up either, honey."
In court on Thursday, Cumberland County Judge Tal Baggett asked Coe if he understood why he was there. "No, but I'm not guilty, sir," Coe said. He did not enter a formal plea to the kidnapping charge, and Baggett said the court would appoint an attorney.
Baggett also said Coe was also accused of "terrorizing" the child's mother, although he did not elaborate.
Chance said a witness spotted Coe taking Shaniya Davis out of the trailer park where she was reported missing.
"I think it's safe to say this is not a random occurrence," Chance said.
Chance also said authorities believe the girl is alive.
"We believe she's safe. We just want him to return her. We have no reason to believe that he would harm her, none at all," Chance said.

Coe was being held at the Cumberland County jail. He has several criminal charges on his state record, including an April conviction for misdemeanor breaking and entering, and he was released from prison in mid-August, according to Department of Correction records.
Coe was previously convicted of assault on a female, felony breaking and entering, larceny, robbery and other charges dating to 2001.
Investigators found a blanket that may have belonged to Shaniya in a garbage can outside a neighbor's home. Lt. Alex Thompson said investigators also found other items Shaniya may have been wearing.
Davis and Shaniya's father, who flew in from out of state, have been speaking with investigators.

FAYETEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Police in Fayetteville say they've made a second arrest in the case of a missing 5-year-old who's the focus of a nationwide Amber Alert.

Shaniya Davis has been missing since Tuesday. Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Theresa Chance said Davis was spotted alive in the company of a 29-year-old man the morning she disappeared. Now that man, Mario Andrette McNeill, has been arrested.

Chance had no information on the whereabouts of Davis.

"I can't speak to if she's alive or not," Chance told reporters at a Friday morning news conference.

Police said they started looking for McNeill after getting a tip from a hotel in Sanford that he had been there with Davis. Sanford is about 40 miles north of Fayetteville. Detectives said surveillance video at the hotel showed the man carrying the girl towards an elevator at 6:11 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Chance said McNeill was taken into custody Thursday night and has been questioned. She said he admitted to the kidnapping. She would not elaborate on where Davis might be, but did say police are hopeful of finding her alive.

Davis' father pleaded at a Thursday night news conference for his daughter's safe return.

"Shaniya, if you are listening to daddy ... I miss you so much ... I'm not going to give up," Bradley Lockhart said.

Thursday, the Fayetteville Police Department had announced another arrest in the case. Clarence Coe, 30, of Brookwood Avenue in Fayetteville was charged with first-degree kidnapping after a witness told investigators they saw him leaving the mobile home park where Davis lives with her in his car.

But at Friday's news conference, Chance said there is new evidence that shows Coe was not involved, and said he will be released.

McNeill has an extensive criminal background. An ABC11 check of his record turned up convictions for selling illegal drugs, assault, shooting into an occupied home, and more.

He was set to be arraigned on first-degree kidnapping charges later Friday.

The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer said while police arrested the man, identified as Mario Andrette McNeill, on Friday, Davis is still missing.

Surveillance video showed McNeill carrying Davis into a Sanford hotel on Tuesday.

Davis was reported missing from her family's trailer in a Fayetteville, N.C., mobile home park by her mother early Tuesday morning.

Police allege McNeill, who served four years in prison for a felony assault, confessed to kidnapping Davis.

Police said based on new information discovered by investigators, kidnapping charges will be dropped against Clarence Darriel Coe, who was suspected of taking Davis from the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park.

Surveillance video shows what appears to be McNeill and Shaniya at 6:11 a.m. at a Sanford Hotel. They checked out before police arrived. McNeill's past record includes drug possession, assault on a female and eluding arrest. However, in the video it was noted that Shaniya appeared well taken care of. But where is Shaniya now? No one knows.
McNeill only admitted to the Shaniya Davis abduction. Even though we know that McNeill abducted the 3 foot 40 pound little girl, still no new information was offered. There is no information supporting that McNeill is a sex-offender. Until Shaniya is found, many wonder just what McNeill has done.

So, where they hell is she? Why won't he say where she is? If he has openly admitted to kidnapping her, what is going on? It doesn't look like the parents have money. Did he ask for a ransom? Isn't that part of kidnapping? Did he rape and kill this beautiful girl? This makes my heart hurt!!

I am just now watching NG and this "Mario Andretti" (yea, right!) character who has openly admitted to kidnapping Shaynia (and IMO, only did so because he was caught on surveillance) is the ex boyfriend of Shaynia's mom's sister WHO LIVES IN THE SAME HOUSE!!

Attended the funeral of a 41 yr old woman today who died of cancer. She left a husband, three sons, and more family and friends than could be counted. Cried my heart out, thinking how the criminals abuse, murder and blame the world for the wrongs, and those who are good and loving must suffer and die. I can't sleep tonight for thinking of the horrors suffered by little children so innocent, and such loving people as Laurie, who died loving many, while people like casey have nothing to offer.

When I was at a Myrtle Beach hotel at the Northern end of Myrtle Beach, S. C., I rode the elevator up with a little girl that looked so very much like Haleigh Cummings, but she was too old to be her as I would say she had to be around 8 or so years old. Anyway, it troubled me at the time that the parent and grandparents she was staying with would permit her to ride the elevator up to the room alone or with a stranger. The hallways were quite empty and anything could have happened, so I watched out for her to make sure she entered the suite next door to ours. Two young men or teens rode another elevator up, but when ours stopped and the doors opened, those 2 young men were right there standing, looking out a nearby window. What strikes me about the suspect in this case is that one of those two looks like the young man they just arrested in this case which occurred not all that far away from that location and involved a hotel. Just makes me wonder if there aren't those that frequent hotels at vacation areas and elsewhere just looking for kids to grab. Really scary and nobody can prove they are up to no good until they actually do something.

This news is gut-wrenching sick! It looks like there is a big network of "human trafficking" going on in the Carolinas. Let us hope they bust this ring, not just this woman who calls herself a mother, but all involved in this. How do we know that Brittany Drexel, Haleigh Cummings, and countless others have not been victimized by the same group? This fills me with dread and loathing!!!!!!

If they get the head of these organizations or major players - I take my thoughts on a 25 year sentence
back- if convicted it should be life with no possibility of parole. Because they now call it "human trafficking" when it should be called what it really is - slavery. This is happening to women all over the world. The penalties
are too light and this is coupled with many people's mistaken belief that prostitution is a victimless crime,
it is not!!!

On Blog Talk Radio this afternooon, there was some disussion or questions if possibly Haleigh was kidnapped and involved in human trafficking. Had never considered that!!

Just a thought that popped into my mind: Her mother was quoted as saying that she "put her on the sofa" that morning. Then, in the photo of the man by the elevator, he was carrying her in his arms. Now I ponder: Can't this girl walk? At 5 years of age, nobody still carries a child that is fully awake nor do they "put them somewhere" if they are awake. Think about it---she appears to be awake while being carried. Either she was kept drugged or she cannot walk because both of these are unnatural for her age.

Maybe just a figure of speech that she "put" her on the sofa. But on NG Fri. the psychologist made a comment that she did not like how her legs looked while she was being carried. What was she alluding to? I had just asked this on the other thread.

She may have been previously used and abused. She could be incontinent. There is feces on her blanket which was thrown in a neighbors trashcan.
Coe alluded to the fact that Shaniya was never in other rooms of the trailer-always in the bedroom. For what purpose in the 3 weeks that she lived with the bag of chit that is her birth woman?
