OMG, glad noone bet me. This is like another Casey Anthony saga. She refuses to say who has the baby. I just pray that whoever has him (I do NOT think he is dead) is not some nut job and is taking good care of him; however..why wouldn't she have given them the car seat? And, this couple or person has GOT to know that they are in the wrong, have basically aided and abetted. That is why I fear she gave her child to sex offenders or crazy people. Who just takes a child?
If a young girl came up to any of you with a baby and said, "I DON'T WANT MY BABY..WILL YOU PLEASE TAKE IT." What would you do?? I know what I would do. I would first ask her why she doesn't want her baby. I would try to befriend her. I would then take the baby try to keep an eye on her and call 911.

If she just handed her baby over to random people in a park, you can bet tongues would be wagging about it. Someone somewhere would have seen or heard about it by now. Your mother, the next door neighbor's Aunt Laura, the car hop at sonic that brought you that cherry cola.
and
If someone approached me with an unwanted baby you know me... there would be questions.

I would like to hear why the Grand Parents did not step in and protect this baby. They could have. Where there is a will there is a way. When a unstable Mom is seen by a Dr they are mandatory reporters. Why was there a referral not made to DHS or DFS during the pregnancy since she was trying to harm herself? I will get the babies picture on our home page today.

Grandparents' rights depend on state law, and a judge's view of the situation. Sometimes not even a judge. Sometimes a magistrate or a lowly case worker, who would rather be on the beach than in the office 'protecting' children.
Police will not interfere in a civil issue, crisis lines don't have answers, they only have questions, and Children's Services Departments are over-worked and under-interested. I've been there.
In addition, unwed mothers have all the rights.

With all this talk I plan on researching state by state so we Grand Parents know our rights. But I am telling you from experience we have no rights to our Grandchildren. Only what the Parents allow us to have.

I want to believe that she sold her baby to a couple who was in desperate need for a child because they could not conceive themselves, and perhaps they were willing to take the risk of aiding and abetting?
Some people will do ANYTHING to have a child and since this baby was still so young, maybe they thought they could get away with it!
I would much rather think that as the possible scenario, then any other alternative!!
I am going keep this baby in my thoughts and prayers all day and until the day he is found, as do I with all the rest of the missing :(

The couple who had been in talks to adopt the baby are sticking by the Arizona mother, saying she hid Gabriel to protect him.
Tammi and Jack Smith told "Good Morning America" today that Johnson gave her baby to an unknown couple while on the run in San Antonio, Texas.
"What she is telling us is that she met a family, a Caucasian man and woman with no child -- young," Tammi Smith told "Good Morning America."
"And she met them in the park. And she was crying and distraught and they came up to her and said, 'How can we help you?'"
When pressed for details about the couple, Smith said Johnson didn't remember much despite having spent three days with them, just that the woman's first name was "Cheryl." Tammi Smith said Johnson told her she purposely tried not to focus on their car or last names so she wouldn't be tempted to change her mind and get her son back.
"She believed she was doing a closed adoption," Tammi Smith said.
In a jailhouse interview Tuesday with a Phoenix CBS affiliate, Johnson reiterated her claim that she had given Gabriel to a couple she met at a San Antonio Park.
"I made a hasty decision and I thought it was OK," she said. "They approached me. I was out alone with the baby at the park. I trusted them, I believe in my heart they are good people."
Tammi and Jack Smith said Johnson's story about the couple in the park sounds very similar to how they met her.
"We met in an airport. I saw her distraught and crying with a newborn baby," Tammi Smith said. "And that doesn't look like a mother that wants to be a mother."
Jack Smith admitted he thought the entire adoption process with Johnson "felt strange," but that they all lived nearby and they had bonded with the baby after keeping him for a couple of weeks in December.
McQueary has charged that the Smiths pressured him into giving up the rights to his child.
"When Gabriel disappeared they said, basically, 'You know, if you care about your son and you want him back, you will sign the paperwork and she will bring him back to us and you will know that he is safe,'" McQueary said.
The Smiths deny the accusation and said they were simply passing on that message from Johnson and that they told McQueary they knew such papers wouldn't hold up because he signed them under duress, though it might bring the baby back.
"The father and Jack and I were in constant contact when we found out Elizabeth fled with the baby," Tammi Smith said. "When we finally got to speak to Elizabeth, she was so angry with the whole situation and told me, 'I have one message to give to Logan.'"
That message, Smith said, was sign the papers and the baby will be brought back.
The Smiths ask anyone who may have seen Gabriel to contact them through their Web site.
Anyone with information about Gabriel Johnson is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.

However the trick is that if this couple had really wanted a baby, why WOULD they give him back? There are alot of selfish people out there...and some people have wanted a child for so long that they would do anything to have their own..even if it meant not turning a baby over that was being actively sought for.
Could the mother have harmed the baby? sure. I say the situation is still 50/50 though.

If she sold the baby, she would have most likely had a lot of money on her when arrested. That has not been said one way or the other.
I do not for one second, think Logan was an abusive father. I think Elizabeth has major mental problems and needs help and a tubal ligation.
If Gabriel is still alive, I just pray he is with people who are treating him right but as I stated upthread, these people know they are committing a felony.

Maybe she didnt ask for anything more than the money it would take to hop a plane. maybe she has a bank account and the money is there....there are plenty of reasons she might not have had a ton of cash on her.

its also entirely possible that if she gave him away, despite the risk of arrest, these people really and truly believe they are keeping gabriel safe from all this mess. Maybe they feel they are better for him than either of his parents...I dont know. There is alot out there on both elizabeth and the father right now, maybe they are waiting it out to make sure the father is genuine. Maybe they dont have the same histories the father or mother have and therefore believe THEY will make better parents.

Then they should have gone about it the legal way. What will happen if they are not caught and it is time to enroll Gabriel in school? Home School? There will come a time when they will need a birth certificate.
Also, Gabriel will need to be innoculated. What then? His picture is all over the paper and television. IMO, all but the dad are a bunch of whack a doo's.

Wrap, you are so right. The family could get thru school by home schooling, at some point in time the boy will want a drivers license. What is it with these mothers and their stories originating in parks? KC..Jay Blanchard park. Stacy Barker, murderer of toddler Emma Leigh Barker said she was at a park when abducted by men who took her child and raped Stacy.
Now Elizabeth Johnson, saying she was crying in a park and happened upon a couple that were in the market for a baby... I do not believe it, not one word of it.

The same thing was thought about KC selling Caylee. We all know that did not happen. Yes if someone is holding him they are committing a crime and will be prosecuted if they don't come forward soon. She sent a message to Gabriel Father saying she killed him. I would say if this little cutie don't show up soon she will be facing Murder charges based on that alone.

Does anyone know for sure if his last name is Johnson. There is no missing child poster for him. Whats up with that? Is it because LE don't believe he is missing?

I never heard her talk about any other states. Yeah, it was a CVS in AZ. She was very distant from our other co-workers. The only things she ever said about her family is that she was living with I think it was her grandfather or her uncle or someone, but all of her family lived elsewhere. She also always acted like she didn't want her baby. I was pregnant during the same time she was, so I was very astonished and angry at that. She seemed like a pathalogical liar though, her stories that she would tell me, wouldn't match with any one else in our store, and vice versa.
She never had said what he did, just that he had had a warrant.
I've already called the Tempe PD and gave them what I know.
I hope she gets the maximum punishment possible. Personally, I hate to say this but I wouldn't be surprised if she sold the child, or if she did kill him. Like I stated before, she had always said she basically regretted getting pregnant.
My pregnancy was not planned, but my son is my literal miracle and I am a damn proud mother, and she deserves the worst they can do. It sickens and saddens me to know that I knew this woman, that I worked with her. :/

tat2dmomsara, I am so happy you are here. You seem like a lovely person and I so appreciate what you have shared with us and that you contacted the Tempe Police.
This girl reminds me a lot of Casey Anthony with her lies and not telling the police where her child is.
Also, as Critter said, I think she put on the act on that airplane and in that park with the "boo hoo hoo" and of course she will be approached because of the baby.
I pray that if he is alive, that the person or people that have him realize how serious this is and bring the baby to any police department or hospital. NOW.
I know Elizabeth has been extradited back to Tempe and between the Miami Beach LE, the Tempe LE and the FBI, they should be able to break her.

The car was parked at a Motel 6 across from a bus station off Interstate 35.
“It has given us new info to follow up on,” said Sgt. Steve Carbajal, Tempe police spokesman.
Johnson did not check into the Motel 6 but could be seen on surveillance video driving into the parking lot of the motel about 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 27, according to Hitu Eatel, manager of the motel.
“She was alone,” Eatel said. “She could be seen walking out of the parking lot about noon.”
Johnson walked toward a bus station across the street, Eatel said.
Johnson lost custody of the boy to his father, Logan Scott McQueary, 25, when she failed to show for a court hearing Dec. 27. She has been charged with custodial interference, a low-level felony, in Maricopa County Superior Court.
McQueary said Wednesday that he hasn’t heard of any developments in the case but remains hopeful that Gabriel will be safely returned.
“I’m just watching the news like everyone else,” McQueary said.

Bob Johnson said his granddaughter Elizabeth has always been secretive.
"If she didn't want you to know something, you ain't gonna find out," Johnson said.
He says moving in and out of five foster homes as a child made her that way. But he said the straight "A" student also developed an irrational temper that led to bouts of rage.
"She should have sought professional help. She did seek help for post partum depression and she was on medication and during that time she seemed a lot more mellow and everything was better," Bob Johnson said.
But she stopped taking that medication shortly before she hopped in Bob's car with 8-month-old Gabriel and headed to Texas.
"She had this cockamamie idea that she was going to change her Social Security number and name and his Social Security number and name and run forever," said Bob.
Instead, in an exclusive interview with CBS5, Elizabeth said she simply gave Gabriel to a couple she met in a park.
"I trusted them. I believe in my heart they're good people," said Elizabeth on the phone from jail.
But her grandfather doesn't buy it. He tried to envision her scenario.
'Oh by the way, how would you like to have a baby, oh it's free, yeah it's free' -- that's hard Pat, that's hard to really believe, but it's a simple story, it's a story that you can repeat without stumbling," said Bob.
The last time Bob saw Gabriel was when the whole family got together for Thanksgiving. He has pictures of Elizabeth posing with the boy's father, Logan McQueary.
"She's the sweet Elizabeth," Bob said when pointing to a picture of her smiling.
He thinks she gave Gabriel to a family in Texas, and is lying now so the boy will never be found. But she has threatened to harm the child, and Bob wonders if her past and her struggles with self control eventually got the best of her.
"It's possible that in a moment of anger, depression, whatever, that she carried out her threat. I don't even want to think about it because, what a waste. What a waste," said Bob Johnson.

Per Jack and Tammy Smith, the couple who were going to adopt Gabriel, they told Nancy Elizabeth sold her two Yorkies for $500, rented out a room for $400, got her unemployment check and had WIC for Gabriel.
I have tried to find this on you tube and/or the transcript but not up on the web yet.

Nancy Grace/ Jack and Tammi Smith
GRACE: Is it true, Ms. Smith, that you learned she checked in and paid for the hotel room a week ahead of time?
TAMMI SMITH: Yes. She told me that she was paid up until Sunday. And we had her basically ready to come back. Sunday morning, she was going to come back. We had offered to help her with an attorney so that she could keep the custody and the custody would not go to the father.
GRACE: And then out of the blue, she just takes off?
TAMMI SMITH: Yes.
GRACE: Where do you think she got the money, Ms. Smith, to buy the ticket? It`s about 150 bucks a ticket, plus the gas she needed to get from Tempe down to San Antonio.
TAMMI SMITH: All I know is that a few days prior to her leaving, she had told me she had -- we saw her dogs. She had two Yorkies. And she sold the two dogs for $500. She rented a room to her roommate for $400 cash, and he confirmed that. And then I believe she got her last -- what is it called?
JACK SMITH: Unemployment.
TAMMI SMITH: Unemployment check. And she did have -- she did have WIC for the baby, for all his food.

Something doesn't smell right here. Why would she not just bring him back now that she is faced with all this "trouble" Also this couple from Arizona sounds off to me who just approaches a sad young mother in an airport and says you don't want to be a mother let me take your baby?

CBS) Police say there are signs a baby missing since just after Christmas -- whose mother claims to have given him to complete strangers in a Texas park -- and whose father says she claimed to have killed the infant -- is alive.
Eight-month-old Gabriel Johnson, at the center of a heated custody dispute, was last seen in San Antonio with his 23-year-old mother, Elizabeth Johnson, of Tempe, Ariz. Authorities say Johnson spent Dec. 22-27 at two motels there.
Johnson's white Oldsmobile was found at a San Antonio motel Tuesday. A baby seat and other items were inside, and there were no obvious signs of violence, said FBI spokesman Eric Vasys.
Gabriel's biological father, Logan McQueary, said during a Monday news conference in Tempe that he had received a text message from Johnson telling him she had killed their son. But McQueary said he had "a feeling" the boy was still alive.
Johnson was arrested last week in Miami Beach, Fla., on suspicion of custodial interference after she failed to show up for a custodial hearing in Phoenix.
CBS News Correspondent Randall Pinkston reports that Johnson says she gave Gabriel away to total strangers in a San Antonio park.
In a jailhouse interview, Johnson told a reporter she "trusted them," and believes "in my heart they are good people."
Police worry the mother's strange story may not add up, Pinkston notes. For one, when prodded, Johnson couldn't come up with the couple's name or address.
In the interview, she admitted she'd "made a hasty decision, and I thought it would be ... I thought it was OK."
Asked whether she was worried about whether her son is dead or alive, she responded, "No, I'm not."
As for the assertion she'd killed her baby, Johnson said she did it to get back at McQueary, who'd "ruined my life, and he had hurt me, and I wanted to hurt him, and that was the only thing I could say that would hurt him"
On "The Early Show" Thursday, Tempe police Sgt. Steven Carbajal told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez, "We have some indications that Gabriel is still alive. ... We're optimistic Gabriel is alive, and we're doing everything wee can to return Gabriel safely to his father."
He stressed that Tempe courts have named McQueary as Gabriel's custodial father. Calling McQueary a "loving father," Carbajal added, "There's no doubt in my mind that Gabriel would be very well off with Logan and his family."
McQueary told Rodriguez, "I'm really sad. I want to find Gabriel. I want to get any help we could get out there. I'm hoping he's with some people who don't know anything about this and ... if they're worried about getting in trouble, just take him to a fire station, a hospital, anywhere."
He said he thinks Johnson is capable of hurting Gabriel, but doesn't think she did.
"I want to give Gabriel a good life, make him part of the family. (Johnson) never seemed like she really cared much about him."
Pinkston points out this may not be the first time Johnson has tried to give Gabriel away. Another couple says she offered Gabriel to them after they met at an airport.
"What's more," Pinkston says, "court documents show this was one nasty custody battle, with Johnson reportedly arrested for cutting up all of McQueary's clothes and destroying much of their furniture."

BACKGROUND: Gabriel Johnson is only 8-months-old, and has been missing since December 18, 2009. He was last seen with his mother Elizabeth Johnson. Police say Johnson missed a custody hearing scheduled on December 28, 2009, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for custodial interference. Johnsons custody rights were revoked, and the Gabriel’s father, Logan McQueary, was awarded full custody. I spoke with Logan yesterday, and this father’s heart is breaking. All he wants is to find his child alive, but it is hard for him to remain positive when he was told that his son was dead. On December 27, 2009, Logan says Johnson sent him a text message saying she killed the baby, and in a phone conversation she allegedly told Logan, “I suffocated him (Gabriel) until he turned blue, put him in a diaper bag, and put him in a dumpster.” Although this information is quite troubling, investigators have reason to believe Gabriel could still be alive, and the child may have been given to a couple. Authorities do not want to say why they believe this to be true, but they are working off information that the child is somewhere and needs to be found.

She quit taking her meds. When a Mother who is unstable just up and quits taking her meds she is not fit for custody of her child. I have seen nothing in my research that indicates the Father would be a unfit to raise his Son. If he truly has the help of his family Gabriel would be better off with his family than strangers.

Tammi and Jack Smith are person's of interest in dissapearance of Gabriel Johnson
The Tempe Police Department has named a Scottsdale couple 'persons of interest' in their investigation to find a missing child.
According to police spokesperson Steve Carbajal, investigators believe Tammi and Jack Smith have undisclosed information that will lead them to baby Gabriel Johnson.
The Smiths had apparently tried to adopt the 8-month-old from mother Elizabeth Johnson last month, but Gabriel's father refused to sign the adoption papers.
When that father, Logan McQueary, tried to gain custody of Gabriel, 23-year-old Elizabeth apparently disappeared with the infant.
Carbajal said Elizabeth initially told authorities she gave her baby to a couple she met in San Antonio while on the run after skipping out on a custodial hearing in Phoenix.
"They wanted the baby and she simply gave it to them," said Bob Johnson, Elizabeth's grandfather. "It sounded like a pretty weak story. It was almost on the border of unbelievable that a person would do that with an 8-month-old child."
But Johnson also said he doesn't believe the Smiths had anything to do with Gabriel's disappearance.
"That's ridiculous.. no, god, no," he said.
Bob Johnson said Elizabeth met Tami Smith at an airport when Gabriel was just a month old. He said Gabriel was fussing and Tami came to help Elizabeth, and then cared for Gabriel the entire flight home. After that, they apparently kept in touch.
Carbajal said Elizabeth left Arizona with Gabriel on December 18. There have been no signs of the boy since the day after Christmas.
Police did find Elizabeth in Florida last week and arrested her for failing to appear at her custodial hearing.
But Gabriel was not with her and detectives said she refused to tell them where he is.
"She was confronted, arrested and interviewed exhaustively about the whereabouts of the child," said Wayne Jones, with Miami Beach Police.
Earlier this week, the Smiths defended Gabriel and Elizabeth on national TV.
"She's completely innocent," said Tammi, speaking about Elizabeth. "She loves that baby, and just wants to find a good home for that baby. As a mother, I commend her."
Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary, said Elizabeth had been pushing him to sign adoption papers granting the Smiths custody of Gabriel.
McQueary also said that after the baby disappeared, Smith approached him with similar requests.
"When Gabriel disappeared, they said basically, 'if you really care about your son and you want him back, and you want Elizabeth to bring him back, that you'll sign the paperwork and then she'll bring him back to us, and you'll know he's safe,'" said McQueary. "I said, 'no, I'm not signing any paperwork.'"
McQueary was on several TV morning shows Thursday, pleading to the public to get his son back.
"Please don't be afraid of getting into trouble, just drop him off at a fire station, help me get my son back," he said.
McQueary said he had previously received text messages from Gabriel's mother saying she had killed the child.
"She basically said, 'there's no way in Hell you're ever seeing your son again,'" he said.
"Is she saying these things to hurt the father or would she actually hurt her own baby?" said Carbajal. "We don't know yet. We're hoping the baby is in good condition and will be returned safely."
But McQueary says he believes Gabriel is still alive, considering he and Johnson were last seen at a park after McQueary received the threatening messages.
Elizabeth's twin brother, Robert Johnson, said he doesn't believe his sister's story, but also said he has to support her.
"She's stubborn and hard headed. If she doesn't want Logan to have the baby, she will do everything she can to keep Gabriel from Logan."
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Gabriel Johnson is urged to contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377).

"
That made me suspicious of them right away. However I really doubt they would go on National TV if they were involved. That cast a spot light on them. So this don't surprise me. Why they felt compelled to go public confused me. If they think they can get through to Elizabeth they don't need to go on NG and bring that spotlight on them. This could have been handled through the police not on national TV.When Gabriel disappeared, they said basically, 'if you really care about your son and you want him back, and you want Elizabeth to bring him back, that you'll sign the paperwork and then she'll bring him back to us, and you'll know he's safe,'" said McQueary. IF they are involved and know where Gabriel is, they probably went on NG to show they are a straight up couple with no hidden agenda. They came off as believable until Mrs. Smith said she thought Elizabeth loves her son.
They also seemed to be privy to how she got all the money to leave AZ. I am wondering if they have family or friends in San Antonio who took Gabriel. It was all a plan.

Didn't LE start investigating Melissa Huckaby after she reported a suitcase missing from her Goodwill donations. IIRC she was the one that brought attention to herself. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. Attention?

I agree, and they probably think by appearing and giving a public explanation everyone will think they would not do that if involved. I think maybe they are just "putting a good face on their lies". JMO

Ok, you didn't ask for it but here is my opinion - ;) -
Bob Johnson is my kinda guy. He knows the girl well, tells it like it is, he doesn't approve of her actions and he won't defend her just because they share blood. I like him.
The Smith couple is on my "WTF" list. They have no right to try to take that baby from his father. They seem suspicious to me, something is just not sitting right with me. They've only known Elizabeth 3 or 4 weeks and yet they "know" her well enough to "know" that she wouldn't harm this baby? Bull Malarky.
And yes, where the hell is Elizabeth's family? Her parents are dead. She was passed through 5 different foster homes herself. Where are her siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins?
My biggest fear in this case is that she has caused this baby's death and will get off because she was being treated for post-partum depression.
This case is almost as compelling as the Casey Anthony case...

Other than her twin brother, I don't have a clue about her "family" dynamics or lack thereof.
I think your take on this case is spot on.

Did you notice on NG last PM, the lady kept on tapping her husband's leg when he would talk, looked like she was trying to hush him. That sent my red flags up.

Also what struck me is they both had the same twirling thumbs mannerism's, twirl, twirl. Almost drove me crazy. The wife kept blinking her eyes, constantly. The first time she tapped his leg I think it was because he was rambling. The second set, where she tapped him three times, I think someone was in the background telling him to hush, that is was NG's turn to talk.
No one would believe this story if they read it in a novel. :study:

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe investigators said they have gotten several tips about Gabriel Johnson from an unusual place -- Nashville, Tenn.
According to those who know her, Elizabeth Johnson has never been to Nashville. She has no contacts there. But Tammi Peter Smith does. That's where she opened her first Healing Waters clinic back in 2004.
Tempe police said they are taking the connection seriously, naming the Smiths as persons of interest in the case.
"There would be nothing that they could charge us with because we have done nothing, we've done everything that the police have asked us," Tammi Peter Smith said.
Tammi and Jack Smith said their only priority is the safe return of 8-month-old Gabriel, and said it was Elizabeth who was driving the adoption plans. Not them.
"We did not do the adoption papers like she wanted. She wanted to keep pushing it along, pushing it along," Tammi Smith said.
But the baby's father, Logan McQueary, remembers differently. He said the Smiths pressured him after Gabriel disappeared.
An eerily similar story has emerged.
"I think what they've done is wrong. They've manipulated the system and lied and I wouldn't mind seeing them face charges," said Jack Smith's stepson, Travis Andrews Warford.
Warford is the biological father of Jack Smith's Granddaughter, Hannah. Warford claims the Smiths offered him money to sign over his custodial rights.
"Three different occasions over a year and a half in between, the man offered me money to get out of his life, leave him alone and let him have my little girl, period. I'll put my hand on any bible in any court in the United States and swear to it," said Warford.
But Tammi Smith replied, "Why would we offer him money, they revoked his rights?"
The Smiths were awarded legal custody of Hannah. But Travis, who has spend time in jail, says he was never alerted that the Smiths were headed to court.
"I'm angry. And the first chance that I have any opportunity, I will do as much as I can to gain not only visitation, but ultimately custody of my daughter," said Warford.
The Smiths deny all of Warford's claims.
"I'm sorry. You guys need to dig and find out who this guy is, and then you will be embarrassed that you are asking these questions," said Tammi Smith.
"At the end of the day, God will see justice done. And if they've done to these people what they done to me, but he's even lying to the law and the media, his time will come," said Warford.
How Warford's claims relate to the attempted adoption of Gabriel Johnson and his current whereabouts remains to be seen.
Tempe police have been inundated with tips in the case and are now directing callers to the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children. The number is 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).
Johnson was arrested last week in Florida on suspicion of custodial interference after she didn't show up for a custody hearing in Arizona. Her car was later found by the FBI in San Antonio.
Johnson told CBS 5 News in an exclusive interview that she gave the boy away in San Antonio. She made the statement after she sent a text message to her ex-boyfriend telling him she had killed the baby.
Police believe the baby has not been harmed.

And if they've done to these people what they done to me, but he's even lying to the law and the media, his time will come," said Warford.

no, don't think so, they talked with her for about three weeks about adopting the baby, then she never showed up to bring them the baby.
