FORT WAYNE, Ind. — For the second straight day, police did not plan to search for a missing 9-year-old Indiana girl who has physical and emotional problems and went missing from a family friend's home on Friday.

More than 100 emergency workers conducted an extensive search Saturday for Aliahna Lemmon around the mobile home park on Fort Wayne's north side where she was last seen. No active search was done Sunday for the girl.

Allen County sheriff's department Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said a new search wasn't planned for Monday unless new leads arise through tips from the public or interviews.

Police haven't said why they called off the search after one day and aren't searching again. They also haven't said what they think happened to Aliahna.

Aliahna and her sisters were staying at a family friend's nearby home because their mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna's stepfather works at night and sleeps during the day, The Journal Gazette reported Monday.

Mike Plumadore, 39, told the newspaper Sunday that he left the three girls in his mobile home about 6 a.m. Friday and went to a gas station about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store's surveillance video shows him there about that time.

"I had deadbolted the door," he said. "When I got back, all the girls was here."

He said he smoked his cigar and went back to sleep, then woke up about 10 a.m. when Aliahna's mother called. After that call, he realized the door to the home was unlocked and that Aliahna was gone. He said Aliahna's sisters, both 6 years old, told him that Aliahna had left with her mom.

Plumadore said it wasn't until he talked with Aliahna's mom about 8:30 p.m. that they realized she was missing and police were notified.

Aliahna's mother, Tarah Souders, 28, said miscommunication between the two of them caused the delay in determining that Aliahna had vanished.

"She's never wandered off," Souders said. "She's never done anything like this before."

But Aliahna does have a history of sleepwalking, even unlocking doors and going outside while sleeping, said her grandmother, Amber Story.

"I just hope that she's not suffering or in pain," Story said.

Souders said her daughter also has vision and hearing problems and suffers from attention deficit disorder and emotional problems.

9-year-old Aliahna Lemmon has been missing since sometime Friday morning. Reports state that Aliahna, along with her two younger sisters, had been staying at the home of their mother’s male friend, Mike Plumadore. The girls were staying with Plumadore reportedly because their mother, Tarah Souders, was ill. The home is located at a mobile home park in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. While Aliahna reportedly went missing some time between 6 am and 10 am Friday morning, she was not reported missing until 8:40 pm that night.

Plumadore has stated Aliahna fell asleep in a chair still wearing her clothes, not pajamas, on Thursday night. Aliahna was apparently left there over night and was still there at 6 am when Plumadore awoke the next morning. He then states that around 10 am he noticed a “pile of her clothes” by the same chair she had been sleeping in and he “assumed she was still there”, but apparently did not check on her, nor did he report her missing until 8:40 pm that night.

Police state there must have been “some kind of miscommunication” between the caregiver and the girls’ mother that led to Aliahna not being considered missing for the entire day. FOX 19 reports that this “miscommunication” is because the caregiver states the two younger sisters of Aliahna had told him she left with her mother. According to reports by FOX around 10 am Friday morning Plumadore found the deadbolt on his front door unlatched, and Aliahna gone.

HOWEVER, further reports state that Plumadore last saw Aliahna still asleep in the chair at 6 am, as he was leaving the home. He allegedly left the home at that time to go to a nearby convenience store and purchase a cigar. Surviellance video at the Marathon gas station confirms he was there around that time. Plumadore states he then returned to the home, assumed Aliahna was still the house. In fact, he states “I had deadbolted the door. When I got back, all the girls was here.” (But there is no claim he saw her in the home, and I’ve not found a report that he claims he noticed the pile of clothing by the chair until later at 10 am.) He then went back to bed until 10, and then found the front door unlocked, the pile of clothes, and Aliahna gone.

To further confuse this issue, at 10 am Plumadore reportedly spoke with Aliahna’s mother. The Journal Gazette reports at 10 am they spoke and “After that call, the friend realized Aliahna was gone, and he assumed she was with her mother.” Yes, I know, it makes no sense. Please bear in mind, however, that the mother and stepfather live in the same mobile home park, so while this is all very confusing, the close proximity of the family home makes this a plausible thought at the time Plumadore discovered Aliahna missing. What I don’t understand, if the reported timeline is correct, is why Plumadore would have just spoken with Aliahna’s mother, immediately found the child missing, and not called back to verify Aliahna was with her mom. Twelve hours of not even checking on where a little girl is, is quite a stretch. Heck, for that matter, since he didn’t mind leaving all 3 girls alone while he went all the way to a convenience store to get a cigar, why didn’t he just walk over to their mobile home to visually check that Aliahna was there. Makes no sense to me.

Now, let’s follow this further. He spoke to Aliahna’s mother at 10 am. When he got off the phone he noticed the pile of clothes and Aliahna missing and was told by the two younger girls that she had just left with their mom…who he had just been talking to on the phone. He believed them…and went back to bed until 1:30 pm!

Now, the three girls were reportedly staying with Plumadore because Tarah had the flu all week and their stepfather works nights and sleeps during the day. Unfortunately, it appears they were in the care of a man who, while apparently not working at all, also sleeps all day. Irrespective of what ends up being confirmed to have happened to Aliahna if you take into account the timeline from 6 am, when Plumadore says he got up and went and bought a cigar; stayed awake until 6:30 to smoke his cigar; went back to bed; got up around 10 am long enough to talk to Tara on the phone and talk to the 2 little girls; and then went back to bed until 1:30 pm – that’s 7-1/2 hours of this guy sleeping (with maybe a half hour to one hour that he’s up for brief periods) with little kids wandering around the house unsupervised!

Plumadore has three felony convictions for battery, auto theft and forgery. The family says they all trust him and he’s never acted inappropriately. Plumadore stayed with Aliahna’s grandfather in the same mobile home Aliahna disappeared from, which belonged to the grandfather. Plumadore lived with the grandfather during the last months of his life. The grandfather only recently passed away.

Aliahna has several disabilities/emotional problems: She is partially blind and has hearing problems; she suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

Searches have been taking place for the past 2 days by ground, water and air. Ground searches have included cadaver dogs. Statements by Allen County Sheriff’s department so far have indicated they are operating off the possibility that Aliahna walked away from the mobile home on foot sometimes between 6 and 10 am on Friday. Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel with the sheriff’s office has stated that so far “we don’t have any suspicion of abduction at this time, but we can’t rule that out”.

In another statement, Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries has stated, “We’re not going to rule out anything as far as foul play, or maybe she’s just at a friend’s house.”

Aliahna is described as having shoulder-length blond hair, blue eyes, 4′ tall and weighing around 42 pounds. She is reported to have last been seen wearing a blue-and-black plaid coat with faux fur trim and a silver-and white sweater dress with white tights and black dress shows with bows.

A sheriff's department spokesman says Fort Wayne authorities plan to meet Monday afternoon to plan their next move after two straight days without a search for the girl. Aliahna went missing from a family friend's home on Friday.

About a half-dozen people in black windbreakers were at the mobile home park Monday. Several identified themselves as FBI agents.
Search dogs were seen at a nearby storage facility.
A state website says 15 registered sex offenders reside at the mobile home park.

Suspect Charged After Missing Indiana Girl Found Dead

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A suspect has been charged in the death of a missing 9-year-old girl after her body was found Monday evening, The Allen County Sheriff's Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.
Investigators announced in a Monday evening press conference that the body of Aliahna Lemmon was discovered after police interviewed the man she had been staying with for the past week.
Police have arrested Michael Plumadore, 39, and charged him with murder. He's due to be arraigned in court Tuesday morning. Plumadore was a friend of the family, according to police.

Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said, "Unfortunately tonight, the search came to a conclusion we'd hoped wouldn't happen. After three different interviews with one of the individuals involved, he was taken into custody tonight about 9 p.m. and charged with murder."
He said Aliahna's body was discovered shortly after the interview.
Fries would not disclose the motive for the killing or the manner of death in Aliahna's murder, only that Aliahna's body was discovered in northern Allen County.
Aliahna was reported missing on December 23 and investigators believe the crime occurred sometime before that time.
Investigators do not believe any other individuals have knowledge as to what happened to Aliahna.

During a 10:30 p.m. press conference Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said the little girl's body was found at 9 p.m. Monday. This was certainly not the ending their department had hoped for, he said.

Fries said that Michael Plumadore, 39, who had been caring for Aliahna and her two younger sisters Friday night and Saturday morning before she vanished, was arrested after his third police interview when he "gave indication as to his involvement in this" and where the body could be found.

Plumadore has been charged with her murder, according to Fries. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Fries would not say where Aliahna’s remains were found but said they were found within a mile of where the crime occurred. He believes details will be laid out in a probable cause affidavit. He also would not comment on the condition of her remains.

Investigators say they believe Aliahna was killed Friday, the day she went missing from Plumadore’s home in the Northway mobile home park at North Clinton Street and Diebold Road.

According to Sheriff Fries, Plumadore has a criminal history with convictions for non-violent crimes, mostly out of Florida and mostly dealing with auto theft.

An online search revealed a warrant was issued for his arrest Nov 11, in Miami-Dade County Florida. His current status is absconder/fugitive charged with BATT.LEO/FIRFGT/EMS/ETC (meaning Battery on a law enforcement officer, firefighter, emergency medical service personnel, etc.).

Aliahna’s mother claims she left Aliahna and her two younger sisters alone with Plumadore because she had the flu and their stepfather worked nights.

HLN’s Nancy Grace said on Christmas Eve she was confused that at one point Plumadore said he didn’t take Aliahna home when she woke up having night terrors and asking for mommy at around 2:30 a.m. because he didn’t want to leave the children home alone, yet at 6 a.m. he claimed he left all three girls alone while he went to a nearby gas station to purchase a cigar.

Aliahna’s grandmother defended Plumadore on the show saying she did not believe he could harm Aliahna or any other child, and that she herself had been left alone at that age when she was a child.

The grandmother also said Aliahna had previously cared for her six-year-old sisters. She's only nine years old, suffers from partial blindness and deafness, and reportedly has attention deficit disorder and emotional problems. Her mother, Tarah Souders, 28, said Aliahna also had a history of sleepwalking.

It's unsure why any parent would place the responsibility of caring for two six-year-old children on a nine-year-old child with these disorders.

The family repeatedly said they believed Aliahna left of her own free will, likely unlocking the front door and walking out while she slept.

15 registered sexual predators in her small neighborhood

The neighborhood where Aliahna lives consisted of about 42 singlewide mobile homes. Within that small community there were 15 registered sexual predators. Those numbers are staggering.

One of the sexual predators listed in her neighborhood was Aliahna’s grandfather, James E. Lemmon, who died Dec. 3, 2011. Plumadore was caring for James Lemmon before his death.

Lemmon was convicted of child molestation in 2006 when Aliahna was four years old. Up until his death, James resided with Mike Plumadore, the man who was caring for Aliahna when she vanished from the Northway Mobile Park.

The morning of her disappearance

At the time of her disappearance Aliahna and her sisters were staying at Plumadore's nearby home because their mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna’s stepfather works nights and sleeps during the day.

She is 4’4” tall and weighs 41 pounds, has blue eyes, and shoulder-length dirty-blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a silver sweater dress, white tights, black shoes with bows, and a blue and black plaid coat with fur trim around the hood.

Aliahna has a birthmark on her neck and many freckles on her face. She goes by the names Aliahna, Ailey, and Ana.

The picture I recently saw his hair was longer and so was his beard - he looked truly scary and I cannot imagine any mother leaving her children with such a person.

I bet the grandfather and Plumadore were both abusing this poor child for a long time. I don't think this was the first time.

The girl's relatives told the newspaper that Plumadore had cared for Aliahna's ailing grandfather until his death early this month and was living in her grandfather's mobile home.
"He was a trusted family friend," Aliahna's step-grandfather, David Story, told The Associated Press late Monday, saying he was surprised by the arrest.
Sheriff Ken Fries said investigators questioned Plumadore on Friday and Saturday and that he was arrested Monday after being interviewed by detectives for several hours more.
"The story just didn't make sense to our investigators or to me when I first heard it," Fries said Monday night. "I thought this is the guy we needed to focus on. If we are going to find her, he's going to be the one who has the answers for us."

A Facebook profile belonging to a Michael Plumadore in Fort Wayne, Ind., had a photo album called “The kids,” which included apparent photos of a smiling Aliahna and other children. The profile, which could not be verified as belonging to the suspect, suggested he was originally from Charlotte, NC.

The discovery of her remains late Monday was a heartbreaking turn for the girl's relatives, who considered Plumadore a family friend.

"He was a trusted family friend," Aliahna's step-grandfather, David Story, told The Associated Press late Monday.

Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said Plumadore told investigators on Monday where the girl's body could be found, ending the hopes of authorities that Aliahna would be found safe.

"It did come to a horrible conclusion," Fries told WANE-TV. "We have somebody in custody now who can pay the price for it."

On Monday, FBI agents descended on the rundown mobile home park where Aliahna lived and was last seen.

No active search was done Sunday for Aliahna, though more than 100 emergency workers searched for her Saturday around the mobile home park. Allen County sheriff's spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said the same size search could not be sustained because of the Christmas holiday.

Aliahna had emotional, physical problems
Aliahna's mother, Tarah Souders, told The Journal Gazette on Sunday that her daughter had vision, hearing and emotional problems and suffered from attention deficit disorder. Aliahna and her sisters were staying with Plumadore because their mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna's stepfather works at night and sleeps during the day.

"This was a child with the face of an angel," Story told the newspaper. "She truly believed everybody had good in them, it just had to be found."

Plumadore told the newspaper Sunday that he left the three girls in his mobile home about 6 a.m. Friday and went to a gas station about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store's surveillance video shows him there about that time.

"I had dead-bolted the door," he said. "When I got back, all the girls was here."

He said he smoked his cigar and went back to sleep, then woke up about 10 a.m. when Aliahna's mother called. After that call, he realized the door to the home was unlocked and that Aliahna was gone. He said Aliahna's 6-year-old sisters told him Aliahna had left with her mother.

Plumadore said it wasn't until he talked with Aliahna's mother about 8:30 p.m. that they realized she was missing and police were notified. Souders said the miscommunication caused the delay in determining that Aliahna had vanished.

The sheriff said Plumadore was arrested after being interviewed by detectives for several hours Monday — and was also questioned Friday and Saturday.

Elizabeth Watkins, who lives nearby, said residents are cautious and keep to themselves in part because of the number of sex offenders living in the mobile home park. According to a state website, 15 registered sex offenders live in the park that numbers about two dozen homes. Watkins and she didn't know Plumadore and was shocked when told of the girl's death.

"I'm numb, I'm totally numb. I don't know what to think," she said.

WHY didnt the mother leave the little girls with her mother - she has a new husband I know - and her ex who was the sex offender was dead - I just wonder why she didnt leave them with her mother. No matter how "trusted" this guy was he was no person to be in charge of a child with special needs and the other two little girls. The man who confessed to police this week that he bludgeoned a 9-year-old Indiana girl to death with a brick then dismembered her had run afoul of the law in Florida.

Michael Plumadore, 39, is a former Miami resident and a fugitive wanted in Florida for the past 11 years after violating probation in 2000, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Plumadore was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to battery in Miami-Dade Circuit Court in 2000, records show. Plumadore also had a prior arrest in Miami-Dade for auto theft in 1999, records show.

An arrest warrant was issued for Plumadore in June 2000, after Plumadore failed to report to his probation officer and failed to attend a court-ordered anger-management class, said Ann Howard, communications director for the Florida Department of Corrections.

"We have been looking for him since 2000," Howard said.

Mike McAlexander, the Allen County chief deputy prosecutor, wouldn't say whether anyone else was suspected of being involved and said "nothing has been ruled out."

Paulette Hair, 45, a former manager at the trailer park who lives at a nearby trailer park, said she never would have guessed Plumadore would kill a child.

"But you don't know a person, truly," she said.

"How could you live?" asked Hair. "How could you sit in that trailer, knowing what you did, knowing what's in your household when everybody is out there in the cold and the rain praying to God that she comes home safely and you're sitting there?"

Aliahna was a student at Holland Elementary School, said Fort Wayne school district spokeswoman Krista Stockman. She did not know what grade the girl was in.

"Obviously, this is a horrendous tragedy. For the school, this is devastating. Our teachers knew her, our principal knew her, she had friends at the school. This is going to be a loss for everyone at the school," Stockman said.

Schools are currently closed for holiday break. Stockman expected extra counselors will be made available when students return Jan. 5, and the school likely will plan some sort of memorial, she said.

Updated at 6:45 p.m. ET: The Associated Press, quoting one of the 15 sex offenders living at Northway Woods, reports that Aliahna Lemmon's mother had recently moved to the trailer park to take care of her father, James E. Lemmon, a convicted sex offender who had emphysema.

James Lemmon died Dec. 3 at age 66, Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home of Hamilton said. State prison records show that he was convicted March 6, 2006, of child molestation.

The official cause of Aliahna's death was pending completion of an autopsy Wednesday, but a preliminary coroner's report concluded that "the manner of death was homicide."

Northway Woods is one of an increasing number of isolated locations around the country that have become havens for registered sex offenders, who in most states must not live within a certain distance of places where children congregate, such as schools and churches.

The Allen County sheriff's registry shows that 15 sex offenders live at Northway Woods, a small mobile home park with 54 lots, only about 25 of which are occupied. Among them are men with multiple felony convictions for sexual abuse of a minor and child molestation.

In other words, three-fifths of the occupied units there house a registered sex offender. That's an extraordinary concentration in Indiana, which has only 137 registered sex offenders per 100,000 population — the third-lowest figure of all 50 states, according to data compiled by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Seven other registered offenders live within 2 miles of the trailer park, the registry shows — meaning nearly 5 percent of all of the county's 537 registered sex offenders live within a short walk of one another.

"You see it on TV all the time in other states, in other places, but this is in our own backyard," said Kathleen McKee, who lives in the Northway Woods park. "It's in our own home, and it's scary."

"I feel for the family, because I have three children myself — two daughters and a son," McKee told NBC station WISE of Fort Wayne. "I can't imagine what that family is feeling, especially around Christmas time."

Before he was arrested, Plumadore gave a brief interview Monday morning to WISE. The station hasn't aired the interview, which could be used as evidence in the case, but it reported that Plumadore said he was going in to take a polygraph test and that he, too, was eager to find Aliahna.

I heard that stupid ignorant grandmother emphatically state that that POS would never harm her granddaughter yesterday on NG I couldn't believe my ears. At the time I thought maybe it's denial but now I'm thinking more ignorance. I'd like to hear that woman talk now.

They are all crying again - Im sick to death of these families crying after they have made terrible decisions and not protected their children. Its criminal neglect of some kind. These children just cant keep turning up dead - almost one a week - probably more. Something has to be done but I dont know what.
