NewsWest 9 in Midland reports that Big Spring Police say the remains, found near the Airpark, are human.

Multiple reports state that the remains were found by employees of a business in the area between 2:30 and 3:00 Tuesday afternoon.

BIG SPRING - Big Spring Police tell NewsWest 9 that human remains have been found on the southeast side of the Airpark.

Right now they are on the scene investigating. The remains were found by employees of a nearby business around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Mike Henry with KBYG Radio in Big Spring is reporting that the deceased individual had apparently been there for some time.

Big Spring Police will be requesting assistance from either the FBI or DPS for proper removal of the remains for investigation.

It is not yet known if the remains are that of a man or a woman.

According to a news release issued by the Big Spring Police Department, human remains found today near a pasture near the 2500 block of Apron Drive appear to have been there for a long period of time.

Big Spring Police Department Sgt. Tony Everett said the remains were found by workers in the area around 2:30 p.m. today.

Investigators have determined the remains are human, but due to the condition of the remains nothing else can be determined at this time, said Everett.

The gender and the identification of the remains are unknown at the time. The FBI, he said, will be on the scene Wednesday to process the scene.

The Big Spring Herald is reporting online that human remains have been found near McMahon Wrinkle Airpark, which is on west side of the city.

No other details are available at this time.

Big Spring is west of Colorado City, where then-13-year-old Hailey Dunn was reported missing in late December 2010. Searches for Dunn never have produced her whereabouts, living or deceased.

BIG SPRING - A FBI evidence recovery team will be headed to Big Spring on Wednesday morning after human remains were found on Tuesday afternoon.

Big Spring Police tell NewsWest 9, dispatch received a call that human remains were found in a pasture near the 2500 block of Apron Drive around 2:30 p.m.

Those employees told NewsWest 9 that it did appear that the body had been there for some time. Employees also tell NewsWest 9 they used a lid from one of their tanks to keep the remains safe from the weather in the area.

According to the Big Spring Police Department, an evidence recovery team from the Dallas FBI will be in Big Spring on Wednesday morning to process the scene.

It is not yet known if the remains are that of a man or a woman.

6:43 p.m. Update:
A forensic team from the FBI in Dalllas is on its way to Big Spring at this hour. The immediate thought for many in this area was that the remains could be those of 13-year old Hailey Dunn who has been missing from Colorado City since just after Christmas of 2010.

Sources in the police department say the remains cannot be identified, so the connection to Hailey Dunn is speculation at this time.

The remains were reportedly located on the southeast side of the McMahon-Wrinkle Airport, just over a mile from the address listed for Shawn Adkins' mother in an affidavit from January 2011.

Authorities in Big Spring say a body has been found in a field near the Big Spring Airport. KAMC 28 reports Investigators from Colorado City and Big Spring are on site. The field is in the same area where Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn went missing in late December of 2010.

Officials say it is much too early to identify the remains. There has been no word on if the remains are suspected to be those of Dunn’s. The 13-year-old girl was presumed dead in March of 2011. We will have more information for you as it is released.

OMG!!!! I just got home! Is this place anywhere near where the searches for Hailey have been? If I remember Shawn had quite a few 'missing' hours that morning he went from work to his Mom's in Big Spring AND his phone was turned off during that time????
My stomach is in knots, I just don't want to know if that's Hailey who laid in a field for all this time.
If the skull is intact wouldn't the results from a dental match be back in a very short time????

Who wouldn't like to be a fly on the wall where ever the hell Billie and Sean are right now? My guess is the remains are Hailey's and Sean is shaking in his boots. If it is her I'm surprised he didn't sneak out there in the middle of the night and move the body during the last year.

I agree, if it is her I'm surprised too that he didn't move the body but then again those two seem to think they're smarter than anyone else so maybe he felt it was safe to leave her there.

Colorado City Police Chief Roy Owens confirms that he has been in contact with Big Spring Police and visited the site where the remains were found this afternoon.

He says right now, this is Big Spring's case and he will wait for more information from them.

One of the men who discovered the remains tells BigCountryHomePage.com's Victor Sotelo that although the body was significantly decomposed, he was able to determine that one part of the remains was a hand, which he described as belonging to a child.

He is still working. I was in court with him last month. He stated he is confident everything will be dropped or at least lowered to a misd.

SHawn's Grandmother lives in Dunn, Texas which is Southern Scurry County.
Shawn's mother lives in Big Springs, Texas which is Howard County I believe.

Adkins said he went straight to his mother’s house in Big Spring…until cell phone records showed his phone pinged a tower in Colorado City at 6:35AM and 6:56AM.

Then he added that he went to his other grandmother’s house in Dunn, TX first. Since she wasn’t home, he then cut through Colorado City (without stopping at the house) to pick up the highway to his other grandmother’s.

Of course, there’s no way he could have been “just passing through” with the second call pinging off the same tower 20 minutes later.

Then there was a “break in usage” for 2 1/2 hours. Only the police know at this point whether this means the cell was off, out of battery or just didn’t send or receive any calls.

After that, he made 11 calls in Big Springs–the last one at 2:40 PM. Of course, that makes it difficult to be back in Colorado City (48 miles away) by 3PM as he claimed, and to see Hailey leave around 3:15.

Police asked to see Adkins cell phone during one of his initial interviews. He complied, but after giving statements that contradicted what officers had seen on his phone, they asked to look at it again. At that point, he deleted the exact info police wanted to see before handing it back over.Wouldn't that be obstructing justice?

In another police interview Shawn Adkins told investigators that Hailey could be found in Scurry County Texas. Nancy Grace asked Billie Dunn why he would think Hailey was in Scurry County, Texas and Billie Dunn said she did not know why but Hailey has friends and family in Scurry County.

Found human remains may connect to Haley Dunn

There is speculation Tuesday evening that human remains found in Big Spring may be Haley Dunn, the Colorado City teenager who went missing just after Christmas day in 2010. Big Spring police reported at about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon that workers found bones in a pasture near the 2500 block of Apron Drive which is very near the airport in the southwest sector of the community about 100 miles south of Lubbock.
Investigators determined the remains are human but cannot determine identity or gender due to extensive deterioration. The scene has been secured and an FBI evidence recovery team from Dallas will process it and recover the remains Wednesday. Detective Sergeant Tony Everett reported it appears the body has been in this location for a long period of time.

14-year-old Dunn, a middle schooler, disappeared on the night of December 27th, 2010. She was last seen walking to a friend’s house. Her mother, Billie Jean Dunn, said she got into a fight with her daughter on the night she went missing. Billie Jean Dunn was arrested about a year ago and charged with filing a false report concerning the location of her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, who was investigated and questioned as a person of interest but never labeled as suspect. Adkins and Billie Jean Dunn reportedly took and passed lie detector tests administered privately. Billie Jean Dunn was given a years probation and moved away from Colorado City to Austin.

Massive searches by search teams that came from all over the nation. They covered the big country and high plains from Colorado City to Snyder in the initial days and months following the disappearance but tapered off as days turned to months and now more than two years. Billboards featuring the missing teen are still posted on interstate 20 between far west Texas and the Fort Worth area.

Human remains were discovered in a pasture near an airport on the south side of town, Big Spring police officials reported Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., workers discovered the remains in the 2500 block of Apron Drive.

Detective Sgt. Tony Everett, department spokesman, said the remains appeared to have there "for a long period of time," and neither the age or the gender of the deceased could be determined. No official would speak on the record as to what constituted a "long period of time."

Everett said officials secured the scene and an evidence recovery team from the FBI's Dallas office would process the scene this morning.

Five people who are missing were last seen in Big Spring, according to the Texas Department of Safety database. Foul play is possible in two of the cases, according to the DPS website.

Those five cases range in dates from 1979 to 2003.

No connection to the missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn has been made by law enforcement officials.

According to an affidavit obtained by the Reporter-News in January 2011, Shawn Adkins — the boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie Dunn, at the time of Hailey's disappearance — told officials he went to his mother's home on Apache Drive in Big Spring after leaving work in Snyder the morning of Dec. 27, 2010, the day Hailey was last seen.

Adkins' mothers' home is roughly a mile from the area where police indicated human remains were discovered Tuesday.

Phone records obtained by Colorado City Police possibly show that Adkins' phone pinged cellphone towers in Colorado City shortly after leaving Snyder, with a break in activity of more than two and a half hours before pinging a tower in Big Spring.

And, re: the child's hand. Is a 13 yo considered "a child"? It could be a baby or a toddler. I wish they had given the circumference but would guess they are waiting for the FBI.

My gut says this is Hailey. If it is, it is only skeletal remains. We may never know the cause of death or get an arrest. I cannot help but think of the Anthony case. There is NO WAY there would be any tissue left after all this time and the animals (like poor Caylee) probably spread her bones everywhere. This is Huge!

Law enforcement officials are still on the scene investigating human remains found at a Big Spring airpark.

Today’s discovery has sparked speculation surrounding the Hailey Dunn case. Hailey Dunn was reported missing in Colorado City back in December 2010.

The airpark where the remains were found is about 1 mile from the home of Shawn Adkins’ mother. Adkins is the only named suspect in the Hailey Dunn case.

We are told Hailey Dunn search crews are on their way to Big Spring.

KTAB was unsuccessful at reaching Billie Dunn or Clint Dunn, but they were able to reach Hailey's grandmother, Connie Jones. She has not spoken with either Billie nor Clint. However, although she hopes it is not Hailey, she is hoping for some sort of closure. Shawn Adkins' mother refused to be interviewed about the findings, which was a little less than 2 miles from her home.

I don't either..wasn't that Christmas or the day after? I think Shawn had the hots (sickening!) for Billie's daughter and Hailey wanted Nothing to do w/him. I notice that Big Spring State Park is really close to Apache Drive where she lives. Wonder if they searched there. If this is her, I think it seals the deal as to who placed her there...at least for me. I mean with the lies and the phone pings, it is pretty evident.

Connie Jones, the grandmother of Hailey Dunn, said she hasn't been contacted by law enforcement about the remains. She adds she's still hopeful her granddaughter will be found safely.

"I really can't tell you exactly how I feel. I want her to be found alive but still we need some closure to just get on with everything," Jones said.

Jones said she hasn't heard from either of Hailey's parents, Clint or Billie Dunn.

Good to see everyone, though the circumstances are sad.

Shawn had 90 minutes of time not accounted for (no cell pings) after he went to work and quit, went back to CCity for nearly 30 minutes, and then started pinging again and making calls from his mom's house. Plenty of time to pick up Hailey from the house (alive or dead), dump her near his mom's, and then hang out at mom's for hours calling people before he drove back to CCity in the afternoon, in my opinion.

IF he's guilty (I think he is), I'd guess he was calling more for alibi building than help, but who knows? IF he's guilty, he could have had help. His weird cousin has never left my mind as a possible accomplice.

If Hailey is dead, I hope this is her. She deserves to be laid to rest and deserves justice - it's been too long. I still think Billie knows what happened and was involved or at least covered for Shawn.

The most telling thing for me right now and why I think that this is Hailey: where's Billie? Why isn't she hightailing it down to Big Spring and returning calls? The mother of a missing child doesn't hide when remains are found near where the child went missing. Unless she's doing something that hasn't been reported, it suggests to me that Billie either knows this is Hailey or knows that it isn't. Either way, she knows what happened to Hailey.

On the edge of my seat; hope the FBI can make a positive ID, one way or the other, very quickly.

P.s. Billie said repeatedly, early on, that it was a nice normal afternoon family dinner on the 26th - no turmoil. Not sure when this new "fight" detail entered her story.

If you think about it, that seems pretty stupid of him to put her so close to his mother's house(if it is her)...but, on the other hand, not too stupid, I guess, since she wasn't found for so long...
