“The day before she left, she was pretty frantic that she had to go back and see Travis," Paul Stern said, not knowing what fateful event was about to occur in Arizona. “She talked about how [Travis] was seeing other people and she asked to borrow money and I gave her money.”

At the rate we are going, this thread is going to "split" on its own BEFORE Wed. So, to all reading, IF/WHEN it splits, it automatically locks so you cannot comment. So, please read up on the last few pages of THIS thread. Hope that makes sense.

I posted that about the escape a few comments back. I don't think you can get the video of past shows unless portions of the show are uploaded to youtube by someone.
I posted it because of what was said about finding the gun in Jodi's rental car after she was arrested. It wasn't an escape; she hadn't even been arrested yet so she was trying to flee.

You can almost guess what she is thinking at the exact moment Martinez asked, "Ma'am would it surprise you to know that Walmart has no record of a gas can being returned on that date?"
Have any of you ever returned something to walmart? Well I have a few times and they circle the item being returned then give you back your receipt. They do this whether they give you cash or put that amount on a Walmart Card.
Jodi thought she had figured out a way to commit the perfect crime... poor waif (as Sam would say).
1) She stole a gun instead of borrowing or buying one. (Her Grandparents noticed it missing when she thought they wouldn't right away.)
2) She rented a nondescript car, so no one would notice it. (The guy who rented it to her remembered she didn't want the bright red car.)
3) She borrowed, purchased and filled gas cans so there would be no trace of her in the area. (She only kept the gas receipts for 2 of those cans and not the one she claimed she returned. Walmart has no record of a return! (that really is just too funny!)
4) After she murdered Travis she tried erasing herself from his house that day. (Deleted pictures, threw clothes and camera into the wash, watered down the bloody bathroom, washed Travis' corpse, took and disposed of the murder weapons and her bloody clothes, sent voice and e-mails to him in further attempt to cover her tracks, drove away to grind on Ryan Burns-the-alibi, talked to Travis' friends, his Bishop and the Police Investigator, went to his memorial service, sent flowers to his grandmother, talked Matt into forging letters from Travis and included her mother in an attempt to get them published even after they were proven to be forgeries.) I feel like I'm forgetting something... oh yeah then she claims amnesia!
There's no doubt she put a lot of planning into getting away with murder!

Their employee policies are very strict and you can easily get fired for not following the rules. I worked in Walmart stores but NOT for WM. One of the cash counters told me that if she saw money on the ground in the parking lot that she wouldn't bend over to pick it up because according to the store policy she would be required to go back in the store and turn it in to customer service.Have any of you ever returned something to walmart? I once took something back to WM that I had charged on my debit card and they DID give me cash back..so unless she used a debit card, she is toast. Plus, WM would have a transaction record.
Great synopsis, Nite.

Are they showing it on HLN? I am watching my grandsons so am clueless. This desktop is so slow, I cannot watch that video you posted, BJ. Wed can't come soon enough.
Since AZ does not honor daylight savings time, they are now on PST. Correct? For peeps in CST or EST, CST w/be 2 hours ahead and EST 3. So, if the trial starts at 10:30 am, the CST peeps won't see it till 12:30. Is that right? I get confused. Go figure.

MOST of AZ does not honor it, there's a border near CA that does honor it and it gets confusing. Where the trial is taking place does not honor DST.Wrapitup wrote:Are they showing it on HLN? Someone on JVM said that this was NOT a premeditated murder. Jodi dropped the camera, they had a fight and it ended up with Travis dead.
That's IF you believe that Jodi dropped the camera or anything else that she says about that day.

HLN Slates Nightly Show on Jodi Arias Trial
By Merrill Knox on March 11, 2013 5:01 PM
The obsession with the Jodi Arias trial continues. This week, HLN will premiere “After Dark: The Jodi Arias Trial,” a nightly show with a live studio audience. The program premieres Wednesday and will run Monday-Thursday for the duration of the trial.
The program launch comes on the heels of Turner Broadcasting’s TruTV scaling In Session coverage back to two hours a day, a move which has sparked criticism in the middle of the Arias trial. In Session anchor Vinnie Politan will anchor the show and TruTV correspondents Jean Casarez and Beth Karas will contribute.
Politan will be joined by HLN’s Nancy Grace, Jane Velez-Mitchell, Ryan Smith and Drew Pinsky, who will weigh the accusations and evidence of the day. The 12-person audience will act as “jurors” and will render a verdict each night.

Did Brother Of Jodi Arias' Ex-Boyfriend Use His Identity In Battery Case?
Travis Alexander, the ex-boyfriend Jodi Arias is charged with murdering, was convicted of 2002 theft and misdemeanor battery charges, according to court documents. However, Alexander's brother says he was the one who actually committed the crime.
"It's something that I am ashamed of," Dennis Gregory Alexander told The Huffington Post. "I have been clean for almost 10 years and it's something Travis forgave me for a long time ago. He was a righteous guy and he never did anything wrong. It was all me. It was my doing. Travis was a gentleman. The furthest thing he would ever do is any sort of crime."
The charges, noted in California court documents obtained by The Huffington Post, accuse Travis Alexander of assaulting a store security guard in 2002, six years before he was slain in his Mesa, Ariz., home. Alexander was eventually convicted of the charges and sentenced to probation, according to his lawyer.
A key element of Arias’ murder defense has been her claim that Alexander was abusive. No evidence has been presented in the trial that suggests Alexander had any criminal history.
Arias, 32, is accused of shooting Alexander in the head, stabbing him 27 times and cutting his throat from ear to ear on June 4, 2008. She claims the killing was self-defense and could face the death penalty if convicted. The prosecution contends that Arias killed Alexander in a jealous rage.
Travis Alexander was 24 when he was charged with shoplifting and scuffling with a security guard at a Stater Brothers supermarket in his hometown of Riverside, Calif., in March 2002. Alexander was 30 when he was killed.
Alexander “did willfully and unlawfully steal and take personal merchandise” valued at less than $400 from the merchant, according to the criminal complaint filed in Superior Court of California. He "wilfully and unlawfully use[d] force and violence" against a man named Fred Lopez, according to the complaint.
Lopez worked for Stater Brothers at the time, a store spokesperson said. He hasn't worked there in about 10 years and efforts by HuffPost to contact him were unsuccessful.
The public defender who represented Alexander had incomplete records from the case, but recalled that Alexander got caught trying to steal an item valued at less than $50. Lopez tried to stop Alexander, and a physical altercation ensued, lawyer Debra Rice said.
"It looks like he was convicted of both of them -- the battery and the shoplifting," Rice told The Huffington Post. "That was 11 years ago, so I really don't remember much other than what I am looking up" in computer records. Rice added, "It looks like he shoplifted something and Lopez tried to stop him from taking it. It was a felony battery when he was arrested, and then it was filed [in court] as a misdemeanor."
Alexander was sentenced to three years' probation. Court documents said Alexander failed to comply with a court order in March 2002 to submit a financial disclosure form to the court.
Grover Trask, the former district attorney who prosecuted the case in Riverside, said he was unable to remember any details.
However, according to Travis Alexander's brother, he was the one who actually committed the crime.
Travis Alexander's brother, Dennis Alexander, told HuffPost that Travis Alexander was not involved in the theft and battery. Dennis Alexander said he committed the crime and falsely identified himself to arresting police officers as Travis Alexander and passed himself off in court as his brother.
"That was a time in my life when I was addicted to drugs and was a real mess," Dennis Alexander said. "I was stealing Sudafed, an ingredient in manufacturing methamphetamines."
Dennis Alexander said he was attempting to leave the store when he was approached by a security guard. "They tackled me and beat me up pretty good," he said. "I was already on parole and would have went to prison, so I used Travis' name and information. When they arrested me, they fingerprinted me and put it in the computer and found out who I was. They sent me to prison for a parole violation."
The court documents and Rice's public defender records indicate the case made it through court in Travis Alexander's name.

Jodi Arias -- victim or sociopath?
By Dr. Dale Archer
Published March 11, 2013
FoxNews.com
For anyone keeping up with the Jodi Arias circus, you are aware that this salacious trial has it all. The accused is a 28 year old beautiful, sensuous woman, while the deceased is Travis Alexander, a 30-year-old handsome, active male, a motivational speaker who was seemingly living a strict Mormon lifestyle. That is, until he met Jodi.
The courtroom discussion has included: XXX sex, graphic audio tapes, pornographic photos, lies, secrets, jealousy, obsession, violence and the ultimate in dirty laundry -- both literally and figuratively. At times, the details are just too graphic to believe and the crime scene photos are grisly and shocking, and portray a love gone very, very wrong.
As a psychiatrist, the question I get almost daily is, “so what’s the deal with Jodi”? Is she a battered woman, an obsessive woman, a femme fatal or a sociopath?
Sociopath is the lay term for the psychiatric diagnosis called anti-social personality disorder. Below are the symptoms. With the understanding that I have not evaluated Jodi and that this is an opinion and not a diagnosis, let’s run through them and see if she qualifies:
• Failure to conform to societal norms: Jodi has no respect for the law or the rules of society. She not only viciously killed another person, she openly and unabashedly sneers at the prosecuting attorney and the courtroom proceedings.
• Pathological lying: Ms. Arias has no problem lying. We've all seen it and know she's good at it. Sociopaths lie easily and keep their cool because a lie is not considered wrong or immoral. It's merely a way to get what they want. In the early stages of the investigation, Arias came up with three different lies for the police which explained what happened, changing her story as they disproved each.
• Manipulation, deception, and cunning: Arias hacked into Alexander's email and Facebook accounts. He found her hiding in his closet when he returned home from a date. She introduced him to sex, playing the submissive partner though she was actually dominant in order to control him. It is the prosecution's speculation Arias eventually filmed and recorded Alexander in compromising situations to blackmail him if he tried to leave her.
• Impulsiveness: A co-worker claimed Arias continuously called Alexander from work. If there was no answer, she would drop everything and leave to track down Alexander. She didn't care if she lost her job, as long as she didn't lose Alexander. Another point: while in the act of murdering him, Arias dropped a camera, and incredibly it snapped a picture of the murder taking place. Instead of taking the camera with her, along with the rope, the gun, her bloody clothes..... she impulsively threw it in the washing machine and ran it through a cycle. Miraculously, the images remained on the film.
• Irritability and aggressiveness: Arias was becoming increasingly irritable and when Alexander started seeing another woman she turned up the heat. She stalked, vandalized, plotted and then murdered. Twice she slashed the tires on his car. She sent a threatening email to Alexander's new love interest.
• Reckless disregard for safety of self or others: We do not have record of Arias disregarding anyone else’s safety at this point other than Alexander- she killed him or herself; threatening suicide when Alexander would try to cut the ties. Ultimately the person she killed wasn't herself, but Travis Alexander, the one person who consumed her thoughts, her life.
• Persistent irresponsibility: In her 20s, Arias worked at several dead-end jobs and was in and out of relationships, but nothing stands out. No convictions, jail time or other legal issues.
• Lack of remorse or guilt. In Arias' mind, Alexander was not a person but her possession. He took her to interesting places, and she introduced him to sex. When he tried to pull away, she would reel him back with ever more outrageous sex practices. Eventually she killed him so no one else could have her possession. At the funeral, she did not shed one tear. Since the murder, the investigation, the arrest and the trial, not once has she said "I'm sorry."
• Before age 15 and continuing, a history of antisocial behavior. Here is the real problem with labeling Arias as a sociopath. This condition starts in the young teen years, if not before. It is a persistent and consistent behavior over the first three to four decades of the individual- some say for a lifetime. No one has come forward with any prior behavioral issues, legal issues, problems with work, family or friends. She was reportedly a very "good girl" in high school and very “normal.” At this time there are no known problems with previous boyfriends.
Jodi Arias, as you can see, fits the sociopath profile in many, many ways, except for the most important criteria. There is no past history. Based on this, unless there is much we do not know she does not technically meet the DSM IV criteria as a sociopath.
So, now the question is why did she do it? That's the million dollar question.
This is a case of a love that turned obsessive and toxic and brought about the ultimate betrayal. It had the signs: jealousy, possessiveness, and fear of another love interest. Arias was obsessed with Alexander, and he was rejecting her. HE was the one she loved. HE was the one who made her happy. HE was the one she wanted as a husband. Yet, HE wanted to leave the relationship, and she became desperate.
Arias was fixated on Alexander. Without him, she felt she was nothing. Desperate, as Alexander repeatedly tried to break away, Arias' love likely became delusional, creating the perfect storm of obsessive love in a fantasy, self–constructed world. At some point she made the decision she would kill him before she'd let him leave.
A true life fatal attraction, if she couldn't have him, no one would. Alexander was shot with a .25 caliber handgun. The same type of gun was stolen from Arias' grandfather's home shortly before the murder. Perhaps Arias went to Alexander's house that night prepared to kill him, but willing to give him one more chance.
They engaged in sex and afterwards Alexander took a shower. What they discussed is anyone's guess, but I suspect it included the other woman and the results were fatal.
Why? She controlled him before, but now she was losing control. He wanted to return to his Mormon roots and lifestyle. In other words, he could go on without her, but she couldn't handle the rejection. She had a twisted sense of love and she was not going to let him go.
Observing Jodi Arias on the stand is fascinating, and it has both commentators and professionals trying to make sense of what she did, only it's senseless. Still convinced she did nothing wrong, she was quoted as saying "No jury is going to convict me, because I'm innocent, and you can mark my words on that one. No jury will convict me."
Arias has rationalized Alexander's murder in her mind and she's sticking to her self-defense claim, despite inconsistencies and forensics that dispute her details. Some experts claim she's a sociopath and it would be easy to bend the rules and say she is close enough to the diagnosis. She lied, disregarded everyone but herself, manipulated, conned, deceived, took a life and refuses to express remorse. But all this occurred after she met Alexander. There was nothing before that.
The final answer is that there is no mold or diagnosis that defines Arias’s behavior. She was obsessively in love and was willing to do whatever it took to keep and control her man. Chillingly, this is a much worse situation, because there would be no way to predict this or ever see it coming. Not for Travis, not for the pundits, not for me and not even for Jodi, herself. A cautionary tale indeed, if you find yourself in an obsessive relationship.

Jodi Arias Trial: Jurors Not Convinced of Defendant's Constantly Changing Stories
By Cole Hill | First Posted: Mar 11, 2013 04:27 PM EDT
As the Jodi Arias trial resumes this week, legal experts are saying the amount of jury questions recently asked - as well as their tone and context - foreshadow trouble on the horizon for the defendant.
A photographer from California, Arias is charged with the the grisly first-degree murder of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in June 2008, when she allegedly stabbed the then 27-year-old man 27 times, shot him in the face twice, slit his throat and left his bloodied corpse crumpled over in the bathroom shower of his apartment. Arias' fate depends on whether the jury believes she killed Alexander in self-defense, as she contends, or was actually a jilted lover exacting jealous revenge, as the prosecution argues.
Jurors submitted a wealth of questions earlier in the week to be asked to Arias by Judge Sherry Stephens. Arizona is one of three states that allow jurors to ask witnesses questions once prosecuting and defense attorneys have completed their questioning, according to Fox News.
Legal authorities like Julio Laboy, a Phoenix criminal defense attorney, say it's clear enough based on the jury's questions that they are far from convinced of Arias' explanations for her constantly changing stories and claim of memory loss during Alexander's killing.
"I think the message here is, 'I think you're lying and I want to have you answer my questions directly,'" said Laboy, CBS reported.
Laboy said the defense has made a huge mistake by leaving Arias on the stand for such a long time. "Let Jodi's voice just end," he said. "Jurors may not be happy if they don't have the last word."
Almost all of the 220 questions centered on Arias' varying versions of events and supposed inability to remember the most important aspects of the trial, such as killing Alexander — a focus that came as little surprise. Over four increasingly heated days of cross examination, prosecuting attorney Juan Martinez consistently pointed out the numerous inconsistencies, contradictions and outright lies in Arias' stories seeking to underline her utter lack of credibility. Martinez repeatedly noted that none of Arias' accusations of Alexander's allegedly abusive behavior or pedophilia have been backed up by the numerous emails, photographs, diary entries, text messages or recorded phone calls between the two already shown in court.
The jury's questions displayed a palpable level of skepticism for Arias' version of events, and in some cases, carried a notably pointed tone.
"How do you determine when you will tell the truth and when you will not tell the truth?" asked one juror last week, HLNTV reported.
"Anything related back to my involvement in Travis' death or de-edifying him in any way, I covered up, I attempted to cover up. The lies that I told after all of this happened were directly related to those two main things," claimed Arias.
Arias has already admitted to lying about Alexander's death to just about everyone. She first claimed she was never at Alexander's home the day he was killed, then when DNA evidence proved she was lying she said masked intruders killed him, and finally, years later she backtracked to admit she killed the victim, but claimed it was in self-defense, saying he attacked her in the shower, forcing her to fight for her life. She claims she lied so often because she was "ashamed" she killed Alexander in self-defense and because she was afraid of revealing the details of their sexual relationship.
"Do you recall the injuries on Travis' body at any point on June 4 without the aid of photographs?" asked a juror through the judge.
"No. I didn't even realize that I shot him," Arias claimed.
Arias has tried to explain away many of the inconsistencies in her stories by claiming her memory was foggy the day Alexander died. Arias has wavered back-and-forth between providing surprisingly acute details surrounding the murder to claiming she has little to no memory of certain pieces of the case, such as the actual act of killing Alexander, saying her memory of the fateful day has "huge gaps," according to The Tri-City Herald.
"If you were scared of what Travis was capable of doing, why would you let him tie you up?" asked another juror.
"When that occurred, he was in a very good mood, and he wasn't displaying any signs of agitation. That was the Travis that I liked and was not afraid of. The moment he began to get angry."
Arias' lawyers have portrayed her as an innocent, naive, devout Mormon who was sexually exploited by an often sadistic and violent Alexander. Much of the defense's case rests on this portrait of Alexander. Arias has testified throughout the trial about her lover's supposed double life: a devout Mormon virgin on the surface, but a "sexually deviant" abusive control freak underneath. Alexander's friends contend the version of him presented in court by the defense is nothing like the man they knew, but Arias has consistently claimed the couple had a volatile relationship, and that Alexander was possibly a pedophile who was "emotionally detached."
Arias faces the death penalty if convicted. Martinez will begin further cross examination of Arias March 13 at noon EST.

Travis Alexander Arrest Record Questioned; Police Checking If Brother Was Actually In Custody
Authorities in California are scrambling to determine who they actually had in custody following a theft and battery arrest that court documents attribute to Travis Alexander, the ex-boyfriend Jodi Arias is charged with murdering.
On Monday, The Huffington Post reported that Alexander's record shows a previously undisclosed conviction for fighting with a security guard and shoplifting in Riverside in 2002. But his brother Dennis Alexander immediately claimed that he was the actual culprit.
"We're glad [The Huffington Post] brought it to our attention. We're trying to verify if that's him or not," deputy Alberto Martinez, of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, told HuffPost Tuesday afternoon.
Martinez provided HuffPost with a mug shot taken in connection with the theft and battery case. Like Riverside County court records, the police department's files attribute the arrest to Travis Alexander, said the deputy.
The booking photo (seen above this article next to a photo of Travis Alexander) resembles other pictures of the victim. But the sheriff's department is taking seriously the claims that Dennis Alexander committed the crimes and used his brother's name when he was caught.
Police are comparing the fingerprint records from the arrest in question with prints on file from Dennis Alexander's other arrests. The department hopes to complete the verification process this afternoon or evening, Martinez said.
The outcome could affect the public image of Travis Alexander. Arias' defense team throughout the trial has tried to portray him as an abusive boyfriend. If Riverside police determine his brother was arrested in the theft case, it could restore Travis Alexander's reputation as a man without a violent past.
Travis Alexander was killed on June 4, 2008. His ex-girlfriend, Jodi Arias, is being tried for first-degree murder in the case. Prosecutors allege Arias that in a jealous rage shot Alexander in the head, stabbed him 27 times and cut his throat from ear to ear in his Mesa, Ariz., home. Arias claims the killing was self-defense. She could face the death penalty if convicted.
According to court documents obtained by The Huffington Post, Travis Alexander was convicted of a 2002 theft and misdemeanor battery.
Alexander's brother said Monday that the records are incorrect.
Dennis Gregory Alexander, told HuffPost that he committed the crime and falsely identified himself to arresting police officers as Travis Alexander, then later passed himself off in court as his brother.
"That was a time in my life when I was addicted to drugs and was a real mess," Dennis Alexander said. "I was stealing Sudafed, an ingredient in manufacturing methamphetamines … It's something that I am ashamed of. I have been clean for almost 10 years and it's something Travis forgave me for a long time ago."
Dennis Alexander said the incident detailed in court documents took place in March 2002, at a store in Riverside, Calif. He said he was attempting to leave the store with drugs when he was confronted by a security guard.
"They tackled me and beat me up pretty good," he said. "I was already on parole and would have went to prison, so I used Travis' name and information. When they arrested me, they fingerprinted me, and put it in the computer and found out who I was. They sent me to prison for a parole violation."
Martinez said Dennis Alexander has a prior arrest record with the sheriff's department and officials there have compared the mug shot attributed to Travis Alexander to one on file for Dennis Alexander.
"Comparing [the photo attributed to Travis Alexander] to the person we booked under Dennis, it does look like it could be Dennis," Martinez said. "There’s a good chance that Dennis used Travis' information and that's the way he was booked, under Travis' name.
"We are doing checking the fingerprints to make sure if we had same person or different people," Martinez said. "We do have two people who are booked -- Dennis Gregory Alexander and then Travis Alexander, so we sent it to our records people [and asked them] to do it as soon as possible."
The Huffington Post will publish an update once the results are in.
