#6 - Hailey Dunn Missing in Colorado City,TX/ Hailey Dunn's grandmother says she could be dead

I think Billie and Clint had so many people hornswaggled for so long, once it came out what kind of family this poor baby came from they had all lost interest. Im just glad David was saved from this before it was too late for him. Although knowing the way this family is I have my doubts about what kind of life hes still leading.

I am calling local LE in C City tomorrow. Maybe if we all start bugging from all parts of the country we can get something rolling.

Four Months Later: Search Continues for Hailey Dunn

COLORADO CITY - The national spotlight hit the basin 4 months ago and has stayed on the area since.

Hailey Dunn, a missing teen from Colorado City was announced missing four months ago to the day.

Along with local coverage, Hailey Dunn's disappearance has put the spot light on Colorado City from national press.

The story has taken some twists and turns but has put searchers no closer to a clue about whereabouts of Hailey.

Search crews and law enforcement continue to work to find Hailey even after four months have passed.

Facebook pages and media outcries for information for Hailey have been a key factor in keeping the search alive.

Jeanne. Pls don't be sorry. I agree that poor HaLeigh was tossed into the St. John's River. It was NO lake. That river is the biggest river in Florida. It is Huge! I agree. HaLeigh is long gone. But, the circumstances in the beginning of the Haleigh Cummings case remind me of this case.

I just hope that Hailey Dunn is someday found, and soon. Unlike poor little HaLeigh Cummings.

As far as those FB excerpts (thanks, Boston_Lady!) I am appalled that this family (on both sides) would air their dirty laundry in public. Simply appalled! And, some of it didn't make any sense. The spelling was horrible. I cannot imagine having a missing relative and going on a FB page talking like that. It's truly disgusting and they all should be ashamed of themselves whether they are right or wrong.

What I wouldn't give to sit David down and just let him talk. I bet he would have a lot to say!

Wouldn't we all be screaming from the rooftops if it was even anyone we knew, let alone your own daughter?

We'd be screaming from the rooftops if it was any of our kids, grandkids, family or friends. I have no doubt in my mind VH would do everything we could to find one of our missing.

Yet, this excuse for a mother would rather sit her azz on the "new" couch and take pics of her "tat", sunbathe or spend time with the likes of SA!

I will say this. Right after Billie was released from the CC Jail, I called requesting the PR. Was told by the CC jail that the PR would come out of Lincoln County Sheriff Dept. Called them, and was told that due to BD being the mother of a missing child, she doubted the PR would be released to the public. However, she took my name and number and said she would have the Sheriff call me. That was the day that PK made his infamous media statement. She made the comment, "I don't know WHY PK made any statement. The CCPD are not conducting the Hailey Dunn investigation, we are." I commented back that this must be very frustrating for the LCSD and she basically sighed and said she would make sure the Sheriff got my message.

He never called me. I would have been surprised if he had.

I haven't thought about submitting it beyond VH because there is nothing new; just personal reflections and opinions about what we've all seen play out over the last 4 months. As victims' advocates, all of us here at VH are interested to read each others' comments and try to get to the truth surrounding Hailey's disappearance. But, as many have rightfully pointed out, the media clearly isn't interested in reporting about the players in the case or unearthing new details, so I'm sure they'd pay even less attention to one poster's opinions about what is already known.

Thanks again for the encouragement... I hope Charm has some luck getting an update (or even a response) from LE. We really need some movement in this case, or at least a basic understanding as to why there is no movement at this time, imo...

I got inspired by the efforts posters here are making to try and keep Hailey's case alive and get more information. I just sent an email to Pete Kampfer with my real name and contact information. Maybe he will respond? If so, I'll post the response.

We have distributed flyers, gotten the word out on the internet, and contributed to national search funds participating in the search for Hailey. We are disappointed by the lack of investigative journalism and professional media coverage in the area and are considering contacting the local newspapers, on-line outlets, and local/national broadcast media in mass in an effort to keep Hailey’s case from going cold and to keep the pressure on those who know more than they are revealing to law enforcement. I did see that KTab is doing an update on tv tonite at 10pm CST. After watching the preview it doesn't sound like they can offer anything new or different. The reporter stated that the police, suspect, family and lawyers are all being tight lipped.

Hailey's parent's aren't talking either which makes it extremely difficult for us to run any coverage. Without cooperation there isn't a whole lot we can do. I continually do call and ask questions...all of which go without answers. As hard as I try, I can't force them to talk to me. We are running a story tonight that again we had no cooperation from the family or officials on. Thanks gnreed - I think Tiffany is trying too. She certainly can't make anyone talk.

What's frustrating to me is that the local stations seemed to be dancing with Billie Jean when she was talking up a storm, rather than asking her important and revealing questions. Once she froze out the local station that released the first affidavit and then muttered her ridiculous "libel/slander" threats early on, it seemed like the many local interviews were on Billie's terms and catered to her in order to get the next interview, rather than these interviews being conducted to ferret out the truth and bring forth the facts. Wasted opportunities, but we can't go backwards and at least there are very public records of Shawn and Billie's contradictory statements as a result of those interviews; these could be good evidence if they are prosecuted in the future...

Also, it would be interesting to see the local news outlets dig into public records, incident reports, interview friends/associates/co-workers... Getting interviews with the POIs and LE isn't the only way to investigate the circumstances surrounding a case; sometimes a reporter has to dig to find out what no one would voluntarily tell him/her. Well, we'll take what we can get at this point...

Also, I highly doubt Billie still has a job. Remember, she was on a hospital website downloading and printing thousands of pages of their "hobby". Between that and all the bad press surrounding her, it is my opinion she has lost her job.

Four months and NO Hailey. Ten months and NO Faith. And, in both cases, the communication has come to a screeching halt.

And, where the hell is the FBI in this mess? What about the CP and beastiality? Just what will it take to get these two behind bars?

I have never been impressed with the FBI. Years ago I was interested in becoming an agent and actually applied for the position. It may have changed since then, but they wanted college graduates with business degrees. Preferably accounting degress. I feel as though their main area is white collar crime investigations. I could be wrong, but really can't recall them actually solving or helping solve a murder.
I am sure they have an excellant record in solving bank robberies and tax evasion cases.
The Texas Rangers are very aggressive and I am hoping they are still active in this case.

Gnreed, I respectfully disagree. The FBI was just called in on a missing 20 year old woman whose car was found running with the flashing lights on and her 14 mo old daughter in the back seat sleeping, car door open. The day after the FBI was on scene, the woman's body was found in a lake.

I think the FBI does fantastic work. However, I do understand you had what sounds like a not so good experience with them. And, I definitely agree about the Texas Rangers.

Well in Hailey's case, she had 9 agencies involved in her search in the beginning. At the last press conference where Peter Kampfer said pretty much nothing, other than his own personal view that he felt Hailey was deceased, he did say that the Texas Rangers continue to lead this case. I'm guessing that the FBI is involved in just the CP piece of this case.

In the Holly Bobo case, she only had local law enforcement. And unless they thought that Hailey crossed state lines, it has to be the CP that pulled in the FBI. Thoughts?

Interesting thought Charming. When Hailey first went missing, Clint did start looking for her in Odessa and then went to El Paso. Wonder if he went to Mexico and bought some special weed while he was there? He did use the $1300 to go look for Hailey. Maybe a little for some smoke?

It would be some consolation, for me, if she got the maximum penalty of a year in jail for each one, not to be served concurrently. Maybe LE could get something out of her after a couple of years or something out of Shawn once Billie was unable to pull his strings. I know she'll probably only get probation, but it would be so cool if she got a hard-core judge and found herself in the slammer for 3 years.

Tell me about it. For some reason, the cops don't seem that keen on throwing the book at her. I can't figure it out. Is it because they all know each other? This is a rhetorical question.

But not all cases end with children coming home. Caylee Anthony, only two years old, was missing for months before her remains were found not far from her home.

This reporter needs to bone up on the Anthony case before making such a bogus statement.

Just putting it all together. I figure her 12 weeks of Federal Family leave must be up. I am sure vacation time has been used. She is living up North at her mothers home..closer to work. Haven't heard much from her so I thought she might be keeping out of trouble working.

I don't think they would fire her for the things she has done..so far. It takes a lot to fire somebody..with all the new rights workers have now. I think they will watch her but I don't see them dismissing her for copying files. Heck we don't know that she didn't ask and pay for the paper. Sometimes we had employees that did that.

Hailey Dunn: Law Enforcement, Key Players Keeping Quiet

This week marks four months since 13-year-old Hailey Dunn vanished. She was last seen at her home in Colorado City on Dec. 27, and hundreds of leads have turned up empty.

Day after day, KTAB News get calls and emails asking for updates on the investigation. But the truth is, updates are hard to come by these days.

Hailey's father, Clint Dunn, her mother, Billie Dunn, and her mother's boyfriend and only named suspect, Shawn Adkins, all declined our interview requests.

Colorado City City Manager Pete Kampfer, who has been a spokesman for the investigation since the beginning, as well as Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs and Mitchell County District Attorney Ann Reed all refused an on camera interview to discuss where the investigation sits today.

Even with the major players in the case remaining tight lipped, we wanted to try and answer the question so many people still have – is their hope for Hailey?

There was a time when Hailey Dunn wasn't a household name. But now, her name is associated with Elizabeth Smart, Jaycee Dugard, Caylee Anthony and Amber Dubois – all girls around her age who disappeared. Some were found alive. Others were not.

Volunteer searchers like Kristy Lloyd have devoted countless hours looking for the missing 13-year-old.

"We look under, look over, climb over, climb under," she said. "We're not giving up hope."

Lloyd, and the other people who have been out searching since early on in the case, say they know the odds are against then after four months.

"We're still hoping that she's hiding somewhere and is afraid to come forward and let us know where she's at," Lloyd said.

Nationally renowned child advocate Mark Klaas agrees that there is still hope.

"Until there's proof one way or the other, I think we still have to keep in mind Hailey may very well still be alive and out there," Klass said, using the case of Elizabeth Smart as an example.

The 14-year-old was abducted from her Salt Lake City home in 2002. Nine months later, she was found alive about 18 miles from her home.

"Elizabeth was taken by a local crazed handyman that decided he needed a child bride, and the best way to get that child bride was at knife point," Klaas described. "As difficult as it is to put your arms around such a concept, it is always a possibility something similar happened to Hailey."

Lloyd says knowing Hailey could still be out there alive keeps searchers from giving up.

"With Elizabeth Smart being found in nine months still alive, we're still hoping. That's why we're still going strong, because Hailey needs to be home."

Jaycee Dugard is another example of a missing pre-teen who vanished and was later found alive. Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 when she was only 11 years old. It was 18 years later that she was discovered living in a tent behind her alleged abductor's home.

Dugard's case may have ended well, but Klaas says it wasn't all good news

"The bad news is that in Jaycee's case and with so many other children who were recovered long after the fact, they were all stolen or kidnapped for purposes of sexual exploitation," he said.

But not all cases end with children coming home. Caylee Anthony, only two years old, was missing for months before her remains were found not far from her home. Amber Dubois, 14, was missing for more than a year before her body was found in a rural San Diego County area.

"The longer the child is missing the greater the chance the child will not be alive," Klaas said. "Seventy four percent children who are murdered as a result of an abduction are dead within the first three hours."

No matter how long it takes to find an answer, searchers like Lloyd say they're in it for the long run.

"There's always been a 50/50 chance from the beginning that she's either deceased or alive," Lloyd said. "We just don't want to stop until she's brought home, and we'll go to the end until she's here."

Jeanne, I respectfully beg to differ. This is a hospital. If she were working for a private sector type job, or a smaller work place, I might agree with you. But, hospitals have very strict policies. I know this for fact as I have done medical transcription both for doctors and in a hospital setting. No way would they allow her to download and print those gory articles and God only knows what else. And, they would not be able to accept payment for paper.

Gnreed, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Can you please tell me the name of the hospital where she worked and also the phone number, if you have it and I will call. If you can do this early on, I appreciate it as I am watching my grandson's later today and won't have the opportunity to call or be online much.

I pulled out my handy Rand McNally map of Texas this morning and attempted to find Colorado City. I`m a native Texan, but don`t recall ever passing through those parts. Once obscure, the media now swarms down on this small West Texas town, snooping for scoop on the missing teenager, Hailey Dunn. I glanced over at my Whole Planet calendar, and noticed it`s been twenty days now since the 13-year-old cheerleader went missing.

At first I didn`t take much of an interest in these developments, "another missing persons` case," I thought to myself. But after viewing an obvious talk show, which I had taped, these events took on a magnified significance (in my own mind, of course), as I listened to Billie Dunn give carefully considered testimony, her side of this labyrinthine tale. Billie was made for TV, the way we conceptualize media today, in 2011.

Either Miss Dunn is the greatest actress that ever waltzed across the Lone Star State Stage of Life, or else her telling of events surrounding the disappearance of her daughter, holds a modicum of credibility and authenticity. That is, Billie`s actually telling the truth. Or is she? Miss Dunn has a protective shield about her that vindicates her magically, almost! (An observation of how she projects herself on TV).

But since this case is playing out in real time, is developing live on TV and the internet (as I type), we still don`t know if up is down, or if day is night. My fascination for these pertinent narratives, timelines, and investigative fragments suddenly awake from a slumberous trance.

Accelerated inspiration is derived from a desire to probe what Billie says and doesn`t say. She`s swerving `round potholes, dodging obstacles in the road, reassessing Shawn`s identity, and right before your eyes on Live TV.

One gets the sneaking suspicion we`ll see the case solved even as we blankly stare out at our HD tubes! That`s exciting! When I was young, only ten years old, I watched our family`s black and white with bewilderment as the Dallas Police arrested Lee Oswald at a quaint Oak Cliff movie house.

I thought to myself, "they`re solving the President`s assassination, that`s a miracle!" Later on I came to the astute realization that what you see on TV may not represent what has occurred in the `Real World.`

I`ve spent my entire life trying to unravel this Sibylline Oracle of History. Age old paradox of appearance versus reality. So as I watch Billie, I have critical eyes and ears. I`m not a detective, nor have I ever worked in law enforcement. My specialty lies in historical analysis. At first all we hear is that Hailey was a straight A student, a cheerleader, active in sports, simply an ordinary, all-American teenager, nearly perfect in every way. Over the past week that`s changed slightly.

Now there is the suggestion Hailey may have experimented with drugs a little. So, a more authentic picture of her life emerges. I was immediately skeptical of a portrait of her as a perfect teenage cheerleader, as first lineated by the media. No such teenager exists like this, unless you mention Sally Fields as Gidget back in the 1960s sitcom. Nor should we think of Hailey as particularly bad.

The media tends to exaggerates things. Don`t know Hailey, but from what I`ve heard reported, she seems normal. But when we begin to examine the boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, it gets even harder to make character assessments.

Once again, I would lump him in with Billie, he`s made for prime time, and is able to project himself out as convincing and forthright. Maybe even honest, if you dare to flesh this out to its fullest extension. It`s a stretch, that`s for sure. Gaping holes in his account told to police.

Most suspicious, is the way Shawn suddenly leaves work on December 27th. He claims he went to his mother`s house in Big Spring. Phone pings of his cell put him back in Colorado City between 6:35 AM and 6:56 AM. Why did Adkins quickly depart work and make a beeline straight to Billie`s house?

Never returned to work either, I heard. Please study your map of Texas-check out Dunn or Snyder, okay there`s Big Spring or Colorado City, Lubbock to the northwest, Abilene northeast from our bulls-eye.

Texas is BIG! And you can get lost in West Texas if you don`t watch your peas and cues. Yet 100s of billboards promulgate Hailey`s photo presently on these lonely interstates. Moreover, multiple lie detector tests were failed. Were Billie and Shawn attempting to buy drugs on the night of December 26th? Lots of unanswered questions.

Billie breaks off with Shawn on January 5th. "You know me. You know I love you and David. You know I would never hurt you." Words of Shawn. Altruistic, hollow, or unfeigned and heartfelt?

A few weeks ago lived a simple life in a small West Texas town. Had a nice girlfriend too. Now in his own words, his life is "flipped upside down. I struggle so hard just to make it through the day. I can`t begin to imagine what Hailey`s family, especially her parents and brother are going through."

Is it spin or is he actually innocent of any wrongdoing? Shawn doesn`t give the appearance of lying through his teeth, at least, not to a news camera`s eye.

And Billie is very good with a camera. Okay, she`s excellent! I don`t get the impression she`s really lying. Perhaps, a better way of saying it is she colors her accounts with the veracity of what occurred, in terms of leaving out any unsavory details.

One might label this as diplomacy or discretionary disclosures. That is, there are some things she tells you, some things she doesn`t. It`s not lying to hide some matters; this might explain why she failed her polygraph, though.

An example would be the claim that she and Shawn were very into crime stories and would cut out articles and what not, that they found on the internet. On the surface, this doesn`t look so bad, but just how far did they take this? And is the media merely throwing this into the arena to color their news features and sensationalize an otherwise prosaic story of a missing teenage cheerleader? This sells copy, but is it the truth?

Furthermore, how far into drugs were Billie and Shawn? This would have some bearing on their behavior in the final month of 2010, leading up to Hailey`s disappearance. Drugs, and especially narcotics, alter behavior, we all know that. And how did Hailey get any drugs, if she ever did? Did the mother and boyfriend play any role in this regard? And does the touchy issue of sex figure in here in any way?

The media is beginning to explore this as well. Rocky Roads for me, won`t go there. But Hailey`s paternal grandmother, Connie Jones, claims that her granddaughter told her Shawn would linger by her bedroom door in the wee hours. This is odd, though; the daughter never told her mother of her boyfriend`s deviant behavior. Billie denies knowing of it, in her public testament, naturally enough.

Very strange contrivances going on in a small Texas town? One assumes that in the past, this town is asleep. No more. Evolution of investigation Live On National Television. What will the next installment reveal? Talk shows as a substitute - public lie detector test. "I`m just a patsy!" Dichotomy of truth and deception is clear as mud. Trans-lucid mud. Can ya dig it? Ya with me?

Thanks for verifying that Wrap! Thank god Billie Jean Dunn is no longer working in an environment that contains drugs and people who depend up on others for their care. It scares me that she was ever employed as a nurse, or even a unit secretary in a hospital; too much access to vulnerable people. I don't trust Billie Jean Dunn not to exploit the vulnerable if given the opportunity...
