Just so we don't get carried away here, I should like to point out that the baby at 8 months old would have a lot of newborn on up sizes of baby clothes that he could no longer wear and had outgrown. This is a bombshell. These people couldn't even have custody of their own and sought it----they are no longer looking so wholesome in this matter. One could ask, if Mom couldn't get custody away from an abuser, then how bad was she by comparison? If he sought to get a child away from a biological father and lost, the real dad's place was judged healthier for a child than his place. This speaks volumes. There is a big story between these lines.

PS The more I think about this couple claiming they must have been "duped" by the mother, the more I think of the pattern of their own history regarding children, trying to get custody of their own or someone else's and failing to do so. The question arises in my mind then, "Who duped Who?" Could it be they met this severely depressed mother in an airport and, in her fragile state of mind, duped her into giving up the baby to them and not the other way around?

Startling new developments concerning "persons of interest" Jack and Tammi Smith in Gabriel Johnson disappearance!

Travis Warford, biological father of Jack Smiths granddaughter Hannah claims grandfather Jack Smith stripped him of his parental rights without notifying him or his family and adopted his daughter. Travis claims he has been completely alienated from his biological daughter! Travis states, " The Smiths falsified information stating they had in order to gain custody and have manipulated the system to adopt my little girl without contacting me or my family."

During the Baby Gabriel investigation, FBI searched the house of adoption specialists in Nashville, Janet Morris, and uncovered documents where Morris was challenged for allegedly stripping a father of his parental rights without properly notifying him. [Reported by CBS5 news Phoenix]

Travis also states that he is afraid of Jack Smith due to being threatened by him and that Jack Smith also once tried to bribe him with $5,000.00 to pay for his divorce with the terms "that Travis would immediately leave town".

Travis also claims that he was jailed more than once for several bogus and fabricated "trumped up" charges.

Travis found out his daughter was adopted by the Smiths through a search for Tammi Smith's MySpace page where Tammi Smith posted pictures and wrote of her newly adopted child, "Hannah".

The documents recently uncovered by the FBI clearly show Jack Smith's "adoption specialist" was challenged for stripping Travis of his parental rights, now who is lying? Travis was stripped of his parental rights and inhumanely alienated from his daughter!!!! What is even worse is that this little girl was stripped of HER RIGHTS to her loving, caring, biological father!!!!

Now there are two little children that we know of connected to the Smiths that are completely separated from their biological fathers. Logan McQueary, father of baby Gabriel was possibly going to be another victim of the Smiths and have his parental rights stripped from him and things went totally wrong and lets hope that Elizabeth Johnson is hiding Gabriel alive somewhere and with someone safe and that he will be found. The father Logan and his family need his son returned safely to them immediately!

Travis Warford also has a child missing from him and his family and fortunately he knows the location of his daughter. There needs to be an investigation into the Smiths seemly shady actions and behavior and Travis's daughters’ adoption. A young little girl needs her father!

Even Johnson's grandfather, Bob Johnson, told CBS 5 News that it wasn't McQueary but Elizabeth Johnson who had volatile tendencies, and was even arrested for trashing the apartment she shared with McQueary.

Tammi Smith's Facebook page contains several posts from when Gabriel was in their care. One read, "Look at the new addition to our family."

A friend posted "Congratulations on your new baby," and was not corrected.
At about that same time, it appeared Johnson was planning to bolt.
She posted multiple listings on Craigslist trying to raise money. She sold her dogs, took on a roommate and also offered to give away baby clothes.
During the investigation, officers found Gabriel's collapsible crib was hastily tossed in her shed upside down, which possibly indicates she knew she wouldn't need it.
Because of their past, the Smiths said they never questioned Johnson's lies and never involved Gabriel's father in any of the talk about adopting him.
Even when they knew Johnson was on the run, they put her in contact with Janet Morris, an adoption specialist in Nashville, Tenn.
The FBI searched her house as part of the investigation into Gabriel's disappearance.
According to court documents, Morris was once challenged for allegedly stripping a father of his parental rights without properly notifying him -- exactly what the biological father of Tammi and Jack Smith's adopted daughter, Hannah, says the couple did to him.
"I'll put my hand on any bible in any court in the United States and swear to it," Travis Andrews Warford, Hannah's biological father, told CBS 5 News.

My question: how could Travis lose his child to Jack Smith so easily in a court of law? What is missing here? How do you "strip a father of his parental rights"?

And yes..if it is true that Tammy Smith lost custody of her three children to an abusive man, what does that say for our court system? Why would any court give an abusive parent custody as opposed to a foster home? Things just don't add up.

As far as Elizabeth, it is obvious she had this planned out. I don't think Gabriel is dead. But, I do think she probably is bi polar and is a danger to others; in particular her own child. Could she have killed him? Yes. I get the feeling she has a lot of contempt toward the father and is playing a game. I really think she has absolutely no clue how much trouble she really is in. I just hope Gabriel is in San Antonio with loving people. It's only and hour and a half from here. When I am in the stores, I look closely at every baby.

In a phone interview, Cherry said he was Smith's first cousin and that the two are very close. Cherry also reiterated that he had never met Johnson and that he could only speculate as to how she learned his name, in order to use it on court documents.

All I can say, BJ, is like they say in the movies, "The Plot Thickens" with every single press release. This is getting unbelievable in its scope. And I am sure there is much, much more to this mystery (and also more crimes than what we have known).

For the Love of God..this is just nuts!! So now, a "Craig Cherry" who is Smith's cousin, is on the list as the potential father (and how did Elizabeth get his name if he has never met her??). Unreal!!!

They stated that the baby was living with them and Elizabeth was renting out the room used as his nursery. The crib was moved to make room for the new tenant.

The car seat left behind is what bothers me (for more reasons than one.)
If she gave Gabriel to random people in a San Antonio park, does this mean they just happened to have a spare car seat in their car? OR maybe they didn't need the car seat because they walk to the park from a home nearby?

I think the Smiths have struggled with the legalities of LEGAL Adoptions and have found a way around the obstacles. Tammi may have dropped the one solid clue that LE zeroed in on when said the word "UNDERGROUND"

I've also been following this case, and feel very confused. The Smiths SEEMED like very decent & caring people that genuinely wanted to help Elizabeth & Gabriel... yet all of these latest news reports have me confused. They didn't pass or fail their poly... so what does that mean? Are they planning to re-take it? Where is baby Gabriel? I agree with all of the above posts... things don't look very promising for poor little Gabriel.

The car seat: Look, they are not stupid. If the exchange of the baby was made at or near that hotel or even in the park, all would assume there might be surveillance cameras around somewhere to see this happen. If this was a prearranged meeting to give the baby away, then it would be logical that those people would bring all their own items for the baby so that there would be no possible tracing of missing items and also that no camera would show them approaching the car, removing the car seat, taking any furniture or belongings from the mother. The trade was made in a hidden location away from the cameras or witnesses. What is known about the case and the parties to the attempt at adoption leads me to wonder, and I will be frank here, if this is not the tip of the iceberg and that there is a baby-selling illegal adoption ring going on. I think the Mom traveled so far with the baby to give it up to someone and then planned to disappear. If she harmed the baby instead, I don't know, but the original intention and behaviors here smack of a clandestine meeting with people who would take her baby from her.

The Smiths have stuck by Johnson, but recently told ABC News that they are frustrated and want Johnson to tell police what she did with the baby. Tammi Smith told Johnson in jail that she and her husband have been blamed for Gabriel's disappearance.

The International Association of Colon Hydrotherapists certified Tammi Smith of Scottsdale, who was named a person of interest in the search for Gabriel Johnson.

“It’s a long shot, but we’re questioning people there to see if there is a connection,” said Kim Hale, commander of investigations for the Tempe Police Department. “Our focus continues to be in San Antonio where the child was last seen.”

Smith owns Healing Waters in Sun City West and in Glendale, according to her company’s Web site. Her husband, Jack Smith, also was named a person of interest in the case. Police have said the Smiths are withholding information that could lead them to the baby boy.

The International Association of Colon Hydrotherapists claims it is the only organization that certifies colon hydrotherapists and has about 2,500 members throughout the United States and in other countries, the association’s spokeswoman said.

The Smiths took a polygraph administered by Tempe police on Friday, and the results came back as inconclusive, according to police.

She wanted to adopt the baby out, but the bio dad got in her way of doing that and actually got custody. Right or wrong, she was hellbent on not letting him have the child. It is possible that the private adoption channels she learned about through the Smiths, the "underground" variety, were then contacted by her and the arrangements made. I say this having read only some of the link that lindamarie had previously posted which explains this "underground" that exists for the purpose of harboring women and children who are subject to domestic abuse. They have to skirt the law, with the law sometimes aiding and abetting, because the courts did not protect them and so they go this route, getting new identities from the underground and the help they need to get a new start. The helpers quite possibly remain anonymous. Thanks LM for the insight into the underground.

I don't know the laws in Arizona but i doubt Mrs Smith would look to good in an adoption proceeding having lost her own 3 kids. Critter i would love to know the particulars of that custody situation myself.

Smith said, "They're telling her that this baby in two to three years won't be able to be recognized? Maybe they're going to stay in hiding for a while until they think it's time to come out."
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the safe return of 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson, according to a news release from the Tempe Police Department.
Gabriel was last seen Dec. 26 in San Antonio, Texas.
Investigators said his mother, 23-year-old Elizabeth Johnson, drove there from her home in Tempe, stayed about a week, then took a bus to Florida without Gabriel. She was arrested Dec. 30 in Miami Beach and returned to Arizona to face kidnapping and child abuse charges.
Three days before, she told the boy's biological father that she had killed the infant.
The San Antonio Police Department has opened a missing person investigation into Gabriel's disappearance.

In the article lindamarie has referenced for us, the woman who has been running the underground says that she cannot place them in the US anymore because it has become too difficult, but she can still place them in another country. Since this occurred in Texas, and ignoring all the leads that point to Tennessee, he might end up in Mexico.

I just don't think he went to an underground area. I think somehow, she set this up. Why would she stop in San Antonio and stay there? This is what I want to know.

BTW, I missed the a portion of NG last night and didn't get to see why the Smith's were not live on air last night, and Tammy seemed to be Hiding in a back bedroom of her home talking on the phone to Nancy. Does anyone know anything about this?

The Smiths probably have a lawyer now is why they were not on last night but I don’t know for sure. I hope I am wrong but I don't think Gabriel is alive.
