I would bet any amount of money that Kronk is simply a meter man who found Caylee's remains and anything else is SPIN....and that George and the *new* defense witness have nothing to do with each other or the case.

I do not think that Casey's rights were denied and neither does the Judge, so that is a good indicator to me. :-) Heike

This witness says no DNA - but there is no dispute that Casey and Caylee rode in that car, therefore I dont see why this is so significant. Casey would put things in and out of the trunk and if Caylee was wrapped up why would there be DNA?

For god's sake, Baez, the murder weapon is duct tape, not a machete...NO BLOOD does not create reasonable doubt for the state's case.

How, after 31 days do we know that those pants were worn the day Caylee died? Do they match George's description? I think all we know is that they stunk of the car and Cindy washed them , which I always thought was normal behavior.

OMG...now no blood on the shovel...wow, really ?...if this is their charge out of the GATE, it is absolutely stunningly LAME!!!

The last thread was getting ready to split on its own so I decided to separate the State's testimony from the Defense's. I hope noone was confused..and if so, I am very sorry. My intent was not to confuse but to keep the "sides' separate. You all are welcome to go back to the State's case to compare note, or copy and paste anything you find significant to this thread.

Bozo doesn't do very well on direct, does he? I expect the State to cross examine w/all of their expertise!

(CNN) -- Casey Anthony's defense began presenting its case Thursday in her capital murder trial, calling to the stand a crime scene investigator and an FBI forensic examiner.

Gerardo Bloise, crime scene investigator with the Orange County, Florida, Sheriff's Office, led off the defense witnesses. Bloise, who previously testified for the prosecution, discussed the execution of a search warrant at the Anthony home on August 6, 2008, and his duties, which were to examine the clothing in Casey Anthony's closet with an alternative light source for any stains.
Bloise testified no stains were found on the pants Anthony wore on June 16, 2008, the day her 2-year-old daughter Caylee was last seen. However, he acknowledged to prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick on cross-examination that Anthony's mother, Cindy, had told authorities she had washed the pants after that day.
Bloise also testified he examined a vehicle belonging to Anthony Lazzaro, Casey Anthony's then-boyfriend. He said he found a stain in the car's interior, but a presumptive test for blood was negative.

Asked by Burdick whether Lazzaro's car smelled like a dead body, Bloise said it did not. Defense attorney Jose Baez, on redirect, asked him whether Lazzaro's car had a bag of trash in it that had been there for weeks, and Bloise said no.

Following Bloise to the stand in the Orlando courtroom Thursday was Heather Seubert of the FBI, who was a forensic DNA examiner for the agency in 2008.
Seubert was certified to testify as an expert in DNA and serology -- the study of bodily fluids -- but Baez had barely begun questioning her when prosecutor Jeff Ashton objected, saying he wanted to know where the questioning was headed. After a sidebar conference, Orange County Chief Judge Belvin Perry Jr. dismissed the jurors, saying that the parties needed to take up legal matters, and retreated with the attorneys to his chambers.

There was no mention, as court began Thursday, of an amended witness list filed Tuesday by defense attorneys. In the document, Casey Anthony's defense said it wants to question Vasco Thompson, 52, a convicted felon who served prison time for kidnapping, claiming he is linked to Anthony's father through cell phone records. Perry has not yet ruled on whether Thompson can be deposed or testify in the trial.

George Anthony, in a statement released by his attorney Wednesday, denied knowing Thompson or ever speaking to him.

"Mr. Thompson is a recently discovered witness through the ongoing efforts of defense investigators," according to the court documents filed Tuesday. "This witness was connected to George Anthony through his cell phone records."

A background check revealed that Thompson "has a violent criminal history and has served a 10-year prison sentence for kidnapping," according to the court documents.

"Because of the recently discovered and unexplained relationship between George Anthony and Vasco Thompson, their finite contact which, based on cell records, existed only during the relevant time period, and Mr. Thompson's violent criminal history, good cause is shown for the late disclosure of this witness," the defense says in the filing.

The records, they allege, show four contacts between the men on July 14, 2008 -- the day before Caylee was reported missing.

The defense said it needs to question Thompson "to determine the existence of relevant admissible evidence in this trial."

Thompson refused to speak with defense investigators and called police when he was questioned, the documents said.

"Mr. Anthony does not know Vasco Dagama Thompson," the Anthonys' attorney, Mark Lippman, said in a statement. "Mr. Anthony does not recall ever speaking with Mr. Vasco Dagama Thompson at any time including July 14, 2008, by any form of communication."
Lippman pointed out the defense has failed to identify who initiated the calls or the length of time of each telephone call.

"This simply appears to be another attempt by the defense to attack my client," Lippman said. "Mr. Anthony has and will continue to maintain the position that he had nothing to do with the death of Caylee Marie Anthony or any of the events that occurred afterward regarding the actions of the defendant Casey Anthony established by the state of Florida in the presentation of their case."

According to records attached to the amended witness list, Thompson was sentenced in 1998 to 40 years in prison for kidnapping. He was required to serve eight years in prison and 30 years on probation. The Florida Department of Corrections website shows he was in and out of custody but was released in 2004.

It was unclear how Thompson might fit into the defense's strategy in the Anthony case.

On Wednesday, prosecutors rested their case, and Perry rejected a defense motion for a judgment of acquittal. Defense attorney J. Cheney Mason told Perry the state had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt and noted that evidence against Anthony is purely circumstantial, but Perry said the matter is for the jury to decide.

Perry told jurors Monday that testimony in the case could conclude by the end of next week, although he cannot say for sure. Deliberations could begin as early as June 25, he said.

They are trying to make it look like its a surprise witness like in the old Perry Mason shows. I saw Linda Kenny Baden and she said oh, Thompson called the police as soon as he was contacted we dont know why. This is just disingenous she knows exactly why- this guy is a criminal with a record and this is a huge case he probably was scared to death he was going to be blamed for something LKB made it out like it was a big mystery and she said we dont know the connection. Are all criminal defense attorneys such liars?

that would be normal, the duct tape was in the elements for all those months. The shovel was stored in a garage.
