I don't think so. If someone gets drunk in their own home and is not threatening anyone or threatening to harm themselves, there is no cause for LE action. If someone takes more than the prescribed dosage of pills and is at home but not threatening to harm anyone or themselves, there is no cause for legal action. There was nothing in the charges about being under the influence or any threats when she allowed LE to search her home. She only got in legal trouble because she couldn't produce a prescription for pills in her possession. I think this is how it works anyway. JMO...

Sherlib, I posted up thread about this and I didn't put that in, good point! I don't think LE would have missed any opportunity to lay another charge on her, yes I think they would have ran a tox screen on her.

I think you're right TBT in what you're saying but what about illegal substances or legal substances obtained illegally? Seriously, I'm not sure about that.
Gnreed said like that in his opinion Billie and Shawn were kicking back, doing drugs and I think he said probably meth and I think that's what I originally responded to. IF LE suspected either one of them was under the influence of meth, would they have ran a tox screen? I thought so but I can't say for sure because it doesn't look like they found meth in the home....

LE would have to show probable cause to obtain a warrant to draw a toxicology screen on any prisoner.

I certainly wish they had done so on Misty and Ron from the get-go. Also, the "stupid's" on the day Billie Finally let LE know her daughter was "missing".

I continue to believe the drugs are more than just prescription drugs. Much harder drugs.

Didn't the officer say "She wants to go back to Detox" when Billie was arrested and one of the news media was filming her? If she asks to go to Detox, wouldn't she be tested to see what she had in her system?

I have no link but I heard an interview w/ someone on TV (Dr. Drew?) that there are more deaths due to overdoses of prescription meds now than illegal street drugs.

Good point Wrap, I'll have to find that video and watch it again. At the time I took it as Billie wanted the cameras out of her face and the Officer told her she could go back to detox. I took it as that's where she could be so no cameras were in her face.

The interview with Richie Cooper on BTHN was enlightening. He is well spoken, clear and kind. Very genuine.

The horrific item revealed by him is that Billie Dunn is not only painting her livingroom, she is changing Hailey's ROOM ! He said curtains had been removed and furniture moved around.

How cold does she have to be to do something like this? Is it because she is so guilty she can't look at anything of Hailey's?

I missed 1/2 the interview but omg yes, I got that loud and clear about Billie changing her room! From what I've ever read, heard, etc., the parent(s) leave the room as it is in hopes that they come home to settle in again or if the child does not come home they want it there just as their child left it. I don't bash Billie but I'll bash her on this one!

I'm not sure how or why it says that I said the above. Actually, Boston_Lady said it - or asked the question. :scratch:

I will answer it, though. For whatever reason(s), LE did not feel a drug test was warranted. They would have to insure they have boat loads of evidence. Now that she has an attorney, he would have a field day with any toxicity test done on Billie.

John Young was the rising star in the Lubbock County district attorney's office in 1989. Although he was just starting out as a new prosecutor, Young was assigned high-profile cases and had a knack for handling the media.

But just as quickly as he climbed the ladder, Young fell when he was involved in a car accident that killed Darlene Hall.

''There was a time in my life when I was not real secure with who I was,'' Young said. ''I sought that security by drinking a lot. Drinking too much ultimately led to my being involved in an auto accident in which a lady was killed.''

A Lubbock grand jury did not indict Young for vehicular manslaughter, but his career as an assistant prosecutor was over, and for a while, Young thought maybe his dream of being a lawyer was over, too.

He fled to Sweetwater, hoping to erase the memory of his time in Lubbock. He went to work for a local law firm with the intentions of staying in the West Texas town for only a couple of years before moving.

More than 15 years later, Young may have become to the Big Country what Johnnie Cochran is to the nation: a flashy, egocentric attorney in love with media attention and a knack for notching high-profile cases.

Cochran enjoyed the national spotlight as one of O.J. Simpson's defense lawyers.

Young may be just as well-known locally as Cochran is nationally. His caseload consists of some of the Big Country's biggest cases. His clients include accused murderers, sex offenders and money launderers.

When asked to describe Young, many area attorneys are quick to respond.

''Flamboyant,'' said Britt Thurman, Jones County district attorney, who has battled Young on several occasions.

Others don't mind the expensive suits and swagger.

''I like John,'' said Jim Hicks, an assistant Taylor County prosecutor. ''He's always interesting.''

Down-home country boy

Flamboyant and interesting may be an understatement to those who run across Young.

At first glance, his wardrobe is reminiscent of a slick mafia lawyer's.

He constantly dons thousand-dollar suits. His oxford shirts are custom-made with his initials, JSY, stitched gracefully across the breast pocket that is home to two fountain pens costing upwards of $500. His sleeves, fastened with shiny cuff links, often protect one of his Rolex watches.

''It's my lawyer uniform,'' he joked.

But there are also signs that Young is a down-home country boy.

He was born and raised in a Dallas suburb, but there is a hint of a West Texas twang is his voice. His upper lip often bulges with a pinch of Copenhagen, now his only vice unless you count being a self-described workaholic and shameless self-promoter as bad habits.

And like so many other people with Texas roots, Young grew up with a passion for football.

''My father's education program was teaching us to work and how to play football,'' Young said.

The program worked.

At Richardson High School, Young played offensive guard and linebacker and earned a partial football scholarship to Stephen F. Austin, State University in Nacogdoches. But Young quit after making it through two-a-days and eventually moved home after his freshman year to help take care of his father, who had fallen ill with cancer.

After his father died, in 1980, Young transferred to the University of Texas in Austin, where he earned a bachelor's degree in government in 1983.

''At that point in my life, I was certain I wanted to be governor of the state of Texas,'' Young said.

After graduation, Young worked with several politicians on Texas Legislature campaigns.

But the allure of law school was too strong to ignore. He applied to several law schools before he was accepted to Texas Tech. He continued his work in politics in the district offices while he worked his way through law school.

After graduating from Texas Tech, Young was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1988 and went to work for the Lubbock County District Attorney's Office.

Making headlines

It didn't take long for Young to become one of Lubbock's top prosecutors. With a zest for the law, Young quickly moved up the ladder.

''My goal was not to be a lawyer,'' Young said. ''My goal was to be a prosecutor. I never wanted to be anything but a prosecutor.''

That all changed, though, when Young was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of Darlene Hall, a mother of two.

The news made headlines throughout Lubbock, and while a grand jury did not indict him on a charge of anything other than DWI, Young was forced to resign in 1990.

''It was a very unpleasant time in my life, but clearly not as unpleasant as those two young children,'' Young said. ''I did act in an irresponsible manner. There's nothing I can do in this life to make up for taking the life of Mrs. Hall. What I can do ... is do better.''

Following the backlash of the accident and the resignation, Young moved to Sweetwater and joined a local law firm. His plan was to learn to practice civil law and move to a bigger city.

''I was still looking over my shoulder for the fallout of a horrible mistake,'' Young said. ''I expected the people of Sweetwater to judge me.''

Instead, Young said, the community embraced him, which is why he and his wife, Tracy, and their two children, Spencer and Lauren, have no plans to leave.

''I think I have a personal responsibility to give back to the community,'' he said. ''It's about investing in the way of life that has been so good for me here in West Texas.''

A great passion

After working for a couple of different law firms as both an associate and partner, Young opened his own law office in 1997.

Since then, he has built quite a reputation for snagging cases thrust into the media spotlight.

He represents Gladys Gerst, the former director for the Sweetwater's People For Progress, Inc., who is accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the now-defunct nonprofit corporation.

Justin Hill, a former Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University football player accused of killing an 11-month-old baby in August, and Ernesto Valadez, accused of killing his wife and then burying her body near their home in Hawley in September, also are represented by Young.

Young said there are multiple reasons for his ability to notch the big-time client in big-time situations.

''Some of the passion that I have is born out of once being a criminal defendant,'' Young said. ''I know what it's like to have made an enormous error. I have a great passion for standing up for those who can't stand up for themselves.''

Young also admitted he's got a bit of shameless promotion coursing through his veins. He often goes out of his way to be accommodating to the media and admits he likes to see his face on television or his name in print.

However, he said, having a working relationship with the media is important not only to his law practice, but to the criminal-justice system as well.

''I think the focus of the media keeps us (lawyers) honest,'' he said. ''It's a good check and balance. If that makes me a media hound, then so be it.''

While I am impressed with his story and comeback, I think it is a travesty that he was not convicted of vehicular manslaughter at the very least. Was it because he was a prosecuting attorney? That makes my blood boil. Two children left without a mother.

I am just now listening to the interveiew with Richey and have read about the bedroom and can speak a bit to it ......I had a precious grandson for 11 weeks, he has been in heaven almost 2 yrs and was born 17 weeks early (micropreemie) anyway he never came home but still has a room, the clothes are still there, his blankets are still folded in the closet, rattles, booties and decorations etc. I don't know IF I will ever be able to re-do his room because I go in there and close the door and feel very much at one with him and peaceful ....that may sound crazy but it is what it is. So when I hear she changed her room I went ballistic, what a savage bitch, she again reminds me of Ron as far as "well I already lost HaLeigh and nothing can change that so why someone else" .....I can not express how much I loathe/detest her WTF

I just finished reading over on Facebook about Billie redoing Haileys room.

Whatever is with Billie. Is there no hope that Hailey will be found? Why does Billie do these things to make America hate her? It is almost like a death wish.

I really need to hear a statement analysis from somebody to tell me why a mother that is being booed and jeered by everybody that knows this case continues to aggrivate and aggitate the masses.

This seems one strange woman.

I'm thinking maybe Mr. Young empathizes with Billie's plight because he is someone who is responsible for taking a life due to substance abuse. No doubt he wants the exposure badly; I do think his past might affect how he advises his client... Will be interesting to see how flashy Mr. Young and Billie work the media and how they attempt to portray Billie...

Did he take all of this cases "Pro Bono"? umno

He and Billie will get along just fine. They will both be so busy looking in their own mirrors, they won't have time to argue.

Billie's words and actions are beyond bizarre; even for the mother of a missing child who is considered a POI. Finding the shoes Hailey was supposed to be wearing right there in her room, the hooplah about the missing earring that was never missing, tossing the couch that Hailey slept on, calling Hailey hormonal and nosy, saying from early on she didn't feel good about the chances of Hailey coming home, lying about continuing her relationship with the suspect when multiple people saw them out in public, painting the living room, filing a Tresspass Order on the suspect and then meeting up with him the next day, and now redecorating Hailey's room!! That may be the most incriminating action of them all. Nobody does that within months of a child going missing or dying. It's ice cold and seems like an admission that she knows Hailey will not be coming home. Billie believes everyone is idiots and slanderous for looking to her for answers in Hailey's disappearance, yet every thing she does and says screams "LOOK AT ME" to logical observers. Very very strange... WTF
