Police: New lead in cold-case murder of Amber Hagerman

ARLINGTON — It's a criminal case that reverberated across America 15 years ago: Amber Hagerman was kidnapped while riding her bike.

The 10-year-old's body was found in an Arlington creek four days later. Her throat had been slashed.

Amber's killer never found, and after all these years, detectives are still assigned to the case.

Now police confirm are working a new lead following a child pornography bust in a small Texas town.

While thousands of leads in the Amber Hagerman case have come and gone, these days investigators get about six tips a year — including a recent one from police in Ennis, where investigators arrested Sharon and Buddy Anderson for allegedly creating child pornography.

"We've got close to 200 VHS tapes," said Ennis police Sgt. Mark Mahoney.

The videos and photos show graphic images of small children and were discovered inside the Andersons' Ennis apartment.

At the same time, investigators also stumbled across a new witness who is now working with Arlington Police.

"We're just feeding them the information," Mahoney said. "Hopefully something we're giving them will help."

Neither police department is discussing the exact nature of the evidence, but Ennis investigators confirm they've contacted police in Arizona, trying to reach a man who used to work in Arlington in the mid 90s.

Amber's mother, Donna Norris, just learned the news over the last few days.

"If you get too excited and too hopeful, it's a lot harder to bring yourself down from that," she said.

This has been a true test of patience for her family — balancing their sorrow with hope for new leads in the unsolved case with a renewed sense of hope that her killer can be brought to justice.

"My daughter fought for her life," Norris said. "I knew she was a hard fighter then, and I'm not going to give up on her. I love her to death; she's my baby; I'll never give up hope — never."

And neither will police.

Arlington still has a detective assigned to the Amber Hagerman case, and we're told he is the one working on this intriguing new lead.

It is very disturbing to see how far reaching the child porn goes. If this case is somehow connected (via the porn pics ) to Hailey's case, (again via the child porn found) it may only be the tip of the iceberg. 108,000 pics is an overwhelming and huge number. I don't have 108,000 pics of my entire family put together.

I can now understand why this case is taking time to put together and bring to the Grand Jury.

Each incidence of having child pornography carries
a 2 to 20 year sentence! Calculate that!

Not sure if Clint will be the first or second guest interviewed tonight, but the show starts at 4 p.m. PST. Clint's been very quiet since the affidavits regarding the pornography were released. Since Hailey disappeared, he's gone from being totally confused, to suspecting Shawn, to wondering if Billie might be trying to throw him under the bus, to supporting Billie and Shawn (because the thought of Hailey being harmed by them would be too much to bear), to suspecting sex trafficking, imo... Looking forward to hearing where Clint is focusing now. Hope he is at a point to publicly encourage Billie to take another polygraph, even while he continues to search for Hailey. If Clint is putting Hailey first and considering all scenarios (including those closer to home), he could be a much needed voice for Hailey. Hope he's working to build a better relationship with LE; he might be able to help investigators find out what really happened to Hailey if there was better trust and team work between them, imo. Hope he has the strength; over 2 months - must be torturous.... JMO...

I did. It sounds as though CD knows Shawn did something to Hailey but continues to hold on to a small chance she is still alive.

He also vented anger toward LE for not telling him anything. I believe LE cannot tell him due to the risk of CD doing serious damage to SA and BD.

I want only to find Hailey. Whatever happened to her?

Clint wants whoever is responsible for the child porn etc. to go to jail and he said when Hailey is found she isn't going back to Billie's house. He and Billie haven't been on the "same page" for a long time, but they held it together because of the kids. Clint hasn't taken a poly; LE told him they have no reason to look at him so he hasn't been asked to take a poly, though he has offered to take one. A week before the affidavit about the porn came out Clint and Billie got together and decided that they were going to be "real tight" in the public eye.......then the affidavit came out and they haven't talked since. With all the stuff that's going on with Billie, Clint has just separated himself from the situation and is trying not to focus on those things maybe having something to do with Hailey's disappearance; the police are focusing on that so he doesn't have to. As a father, he feels like no one is doing enough to find Hailey. LE is focusing on Shawn and aren't looking anywhere else. His greatest fear is that human trafficking, which is the fastest growing illegal trade in the world, might involved in Hailey's disappearance. He encourages people to keep coming to search and not forget about his daughter, Hailey.

Shawn Adkins is still scheduled to be on the show tomorrow night. Wonder if he'll show up with a fully charged phone.

I just could not listen to another interview. For one thing, I can barely tolerate those two females and I'm just sick of this bunch and their **** interviews. I shouldn't say that because I think Clint is OK and IF Hailey is found I sure hope that he gets full legal and physical custody of her... not that I think she's going to be found. If that happens, he needs some parenting classes under his belt (so does Naomi) and I would hope they'd move out of that God forsaken town. I still think trafficking is a possibility but I sure hate saying that because in that case I don't think she'll be found.

I am certain SA will show tonight. Why shouldn't he? The hosts mentioned last night the guests know what most questions are going to be as most are discussed before show time. What a sweet deal.

Thanks for the recap of the Clint's interview BJ. I listened to it late last night; he is clearly desperate and heartbroken. I agree with most that he is on the wrong track with the sex trafficking angle, but he isn't emotionally able to fully consider the most likely scenario; the one that LE is diligently pursuing. Grief, denial and hope are driving him. If LE is wrong and Hailey was actually taken for sex trafficking, she might still be alive. I think that's what he's clinging to for now. And LE, of course, can't give them their evidence considering his relationships to the other adults in this case. He might reveal information that would jeopardize their case (or he might lose control). Hailey comes before Clint in the eyes of LE, imo. Sad that he seems so in the dark, but I think he's partially responsible for keeping himself there until he's ready to see the light.

P.s. I wouldn't want to be around when Clint's denial turns to anger if I was Shawn or Billie; hopefully they'll be some arrests by then... Also, I was so glad to hear Clint's stance on the child pornography allegations, "why aren't they in jail, they need to be in jail not walking around; they need to be in jail until they rot in hell" (paraphrasing). He made no bones about it.

I agree Jeanne; Clint's on-again/off-again tightness with Billie is frustrating.

I hope Clint has washed his hands of Billie and sees her for what she is. Marc Klaas has often advised that family members work together when a child goes missing, regardless of their personal feelings. Marc has stated publicly on Nancy Grace that he thought it was unproductive when Desiree Young distanced herself from Kaine Horman too. IIRC, Marc was in town just before the volunteer dinner when Billie and Clint showed up as a team for the first time in a long while. Now that Marc's backed off of Billie and the affidavits regarding the porn are out there, hoping that Clint is as sincere as he seems and will stand his ground (and wake up soon). Imo, Clint should publicly implore Billie to take a another lie detector test (and he should stay out of the seedy merchandising biz, imo). I would also like to see Clint approach LE for a LDT again, just because it should always be done for family members, imo. He can't force them to give him one, but I'm confused why LE wouldn't have as a matter of procedure? Maybe LE has known all along who is involved and who is not?

I don't know if Clint is nuts, but he sure does seem very confused and easily influenced. Hope the fog lifts soon... I do empathize with his pain and grief...

Billie Dunn and Shawn Adkins are the only two POI in this case per LE.
They were instructed not to go on the radio blog show tonight by LE.

First the host said Billie Jean Dunn would be on the show.
Then she said the hosts have been instructed by LE to NOT have Billie and Shawn on their show. LE has told them that Billie and Shawn are the only two persons of interest in Hailey's disappearance. Billie was told by LE to stay away from Shawn Adkins until he was cleared. She disregarded the request and chose Shawn over her daughter.
Now we are told that Peter Hyatt is going to be the guest.

Pretty much what we have all been saying all along!!!

Now I'm under the impression that they are trying to get Billie on the line.

BJ - it sounded like Billie was the one trying to get through not that they were trying to get through to her.

One of the hosts is stating she is shocked that BD was not telling her the truth. What is so hard to believe. This piece of trash mother NEVER attempted to search for her daughter. She lied about drug use, she lied and continues to lie about everything. Not once did she break down emotionally on TV when interviewed. She had to stand beside Mr. Awesome because if he goes down, she goes down.
Hard to believe people are so trusting.

That was really an interesting show. Peter asked Billie a couple direct questions and got an extended silence and then an "ummm..." - Billie kept trying to say she is no longer supporting Shawn, but it didn't ring true.

I missed the show took and nap and that was it, then awoke to hear what the majority always suspected wrt Billie being a suspect in some manner. Also, I posted a few weeks back about her "girls" and how fake they were. Not to slam anyone for that since mine are too, but it made the stripper scenario much more plausible....now Amber DuBois' mom verifies that it is true, but anyone could tell from comparing the two pictures I posted that those girls were bought and paid for-now I am curious WHO paid for them? Not a cheap procedure for someone raising a family all by herself with no help as she stated. I hope they are arrested and tossed in general population (wishful thinking I know)

Peter asked Billie what would bring her to the show tonight. She said Bea asked her to be there to talk about Hailey and the search and conversation is off topic.
Billie said she stood behind Shawn for a little bit but not now after talking to LE.....about two weeks ago. Peter told her that he believed that she wasn't truthful on Nancy Grace. Peter asked Billie about Shawn being worried that Billie might take a plea deal.....she said she has no reason to accept a plea and she doesn't know why Shawn is worried. Billie doesn't know if Shawn is involved. She wouldn't be willing to go to prison for someone that hurt her daughter. She doesn't know what to think about Shawn's involvement with child porn. She doesn't know how many images......then she said that she does know that there was over 100,000 images. Peter said that it takes a long time to download that many. Billie was just told that Hailey might have been murdered and that Shawn might have something to do with it. She said meds can make you fail a poly. Host asked where Shawn is tonight.....Billie doesn't know. Billie said she's seen him in the last few weeks, but not in the last 48 hours. She said if someone said they saw Shawn and her together she guessed that they would be lying. She said she thought she failed all the poly questions. She said she took one poly and offered to take another one. The she told them she wouldn't take another one from the same man.....now she says she would take one through the Texas Rangers or FBI.

Peter said Billie will hang on to the sinking ship until it goes under and we'll will see some movement in this case in the next few weeks and people on the Grand Jury will see the deception and it doesn't add up, the drug use, the child porn and the abusive environment that was Hailey's life and they're not going to be happy and Billie has to be honest about Shawn and what happened and she must be let someone know where Hailey can be found if she wants to gain any sympathy. Peter knows that Billie had a difficult tragic life and things were done to her when she was a child. Billie has to stand up and do the right thing if she has any love for Hailey.
Rachel is worried about David and wonders about him getting counseling. Peter said that David, at 16, would have be to in long term harm to be removed from the home. Peter thinks that the state has info from David that hasn't been revealed. David has lost his sister and now he's facing losing his mother. Rachael said Billie's choosing a man over her son.....again. Peter said what if before Shawn takes revenge on himself, he takes his vengeance upon Billie? Peter said that B's and S's hobby is child porn and bestiality and it's enjoying the abuse of others and animals.....who's to say that Hailey didn't die in one of Shawn's sick productions of fantasy in his mind and if Billie wants to cover for that he can only say that she's either utterly blinded by Shawn or she has self preserving reasons why she needs to protect him. Billie and Shawn are the only two suspects and it's coming down to the wire. It's devastated that donated money and searched. Why hasn't Billie searched. If it's coming to her own damnation, she can't search.
Rachael says his is going to be devastating to the rest of the family. She needs to talk to LE and make this right for her daughter. Tattoo of Hailey.......isn't that to memorialize a person? She's confusing and shocking.
Peter says the couch, the living room, the coveralls, the laundry, the living breathing Hailey are all areas of sensitivity. Billie will give herself away with her words.......these things are on their minds.
Peter thinks that Shawn was going to get rid of the coveralls at work and get rid of Hailey on that morning that Billie said she looked in on Hailey, but didn't touch her. Said she saw Hailey and was pacified (or something) and she meant that she was satisfied that Shawn would take care of everything.
Rachael said Billie placed a heart shaped balloon somewhere that said "I know you're not in Dunn", but not to quote her on this......is this a clue?
Peter thinks Billie's street smart and savy. He also thinks that David knew that there was no need to search and that's why he was playing video games.

Peter thinks that what happened to Hailey was sexual and violent and it didn't end well.

There were some more opinions from all of them that I didn't write down.

Peter said nothing about the concert.

I have a feeling PK will be on the news tonight saying, "I am unaware of BD being named a POI. I have no knowledge of that information."

I got home at the very end of the interview. I heard Peter and I was confused. I actually thought I clicked on the wrong blog radio show ! And then I looked and saw the chatroom and realized Peter was on BTHN.

BJ you did an amazing recap of the show. I'm still shocked that Billie Dunn called in and thought she could fool Peter. Billie admitted that she "heard" what he said about her and when asked by Peter "what did you hear" she answered "I don't listen to you" lol It was great.

Billie was pissed. It was the most real she has been. It gave me the creeps. Maybe that's not the right term. But it was a glimpse into how I think (based on her anger) she ruled her home. Billie calls the shots and if you don't agree, you will feel her wrath.

I don't know what was told to Bea but it must have been pretty bad because she was crushed. Billie lied to her (as we were all seeing) but she didn't see it.

So now we know (what we already knew) both Billie and Shawn are POI's. It's official and Billie can't deny it. She can no longer say "I'm gonna git with the investigators later today and get me some truths about what all was said" Billie loved being in the spotlight thinking that the LE was going to "run" everything by her first.

Little did she know....

One other thing. Billie and Shawn have turned this case into a sideshow. They have made it all about them. In the meantime, Hailey is still not found. And when that reality hits, I have so many emotions at the same time.

This is going to make quite a book and/or movie. But with that comes the realization that a beautiful little girl is no longer here.

It's tragic.
